Need a favor? There is a right side and a wrong side of a person to be on when asking. The right side is, coincidentally, the right side. According to new research, people respond more favorably to requests if they're directed at the right ear instead of the left.

It's another one of those "Is this really science, or are you playing a joke on me?" studies that required "researchers" to go to nightclubs and spend all night bumming cigarettes. (Really!) People not only displayed a subconscious preference for using their right ear (58 percent), but the researchers also obtained "significantly more" smokes when they asked for one into the person's right ear as opposed to the left.

They believe it has to do with the left hemisphere of the brain's superior ability to process verbal information. We just know which side of the landlord we're going to stand on to tell him the water turned brown again.
