Today marks the anniversary of Title IX, the law that says women and men are equals when it comes to education activities. Ironically though, a new study found that physical education is actually a miserable time for both sexes. Almost a third of people questioned said good ol' gym class was the unhappiest experience of school.
And we kind of have to agree. When we weren't faking our period to get out of the swimming unit, we were keeping our distance from the smelly kid we were paired with during ballroom dancing.
And don't even get us started on running the mile or our Mrs. Trunchbull lookalike gym teacher. Sure, we know P.E. was supposed to keep us in shape, but we just can't get rid of the image of all our classmates giggling at us when we toppled off the beam in gymnastics.
How about you? What are you worst gym class memories? Or were you actually fond of sweating on school time?

I was a swimming star though school but you would not have known that in gym class. I could not do a cartwheel, I hated to run and I hated the whole idea of having to get all sweaty and then go back to class. Gym class sucks and always will, even for kids who like sports.

Why do gym class coaches always seem so much like buttholes to me? My worst memory would have to be hearing one of them call my name. You knew it couldn't be good. There was a guy in our class that broke his arm. I wanted to be him so bad!! Why couldn't I break my arm? He had it so easy! It's crazy to look back and think that most of the coaches weren't much older than I am now (27). I guess that's explains why they were hitting on all the girls.

I hated gym class. I was the only 11 yr old girl in class with D cups and you want me to run around and jump rope. Thanks a lot, I have enough body issues without my boobs flopping all over the place.

I loved PE. Loved it. Of course, I have learned that I am very lonely in this. My sister loved PE too (even more than I did!) so of course we were out of college before we realized how many people hated it.

I have to agree I hated gym class. Middle school was the worst. I hated when the teacher would pick two "popular girls" and have each of them pick teams from the rest of us. I also hated changing in front of the other girls. High school gym class was better, because I only had to take it two semesters, and all the girls in the class felt the class itself was rediculous.
