We were angry teenagers. If you visited a Hot Topic between 1993 and 2000, you may have seen us there.

You were even more likely to find us scowling angstily in photos -- which is why we can empathize with the petulant souls on Happiest People Ever!, a new and amazing tumblr of crabby children and other surly types who decline -- nay REFUSE -- to smile for the camera.

We asked Happiest People Ever! creator and totally awesome Belgian Reno Dehareng to tell us a little about the blog, and to share some favorite pics.

When did you start Happiest People Ever?
The site is less than 1 month old now.

What inspired you to start it?
For fun. I love photography in general, and unsmiling/non-photogenic people have always made me laugh -- It's the reason why I started to collect photos of them and to ask people to caption them. Thus, Happiest People Ever! was born ...

Now that the site is blowing up, are you inundated with submissions?
[We get] between 50 and 100 submissions per week but the number is growing.

When you were a kid, did you like getting your photo taken? Did you smile or look mad?
When I was young, I wasn't photogenic ... And it's always the case today.
