If you've ever been to the Blarney Stone in Ireland, bent over backwards, and planted a big, wet kiss on it, congratulations! You practically just tongue-kissed every man, woman and child in the city of Miami! The Stone, which is probably kissed by around 400,000 people yearly, has been named the world's most unhygienic tourist attraction by researchers, who admit they have no evidence to back up their claims. Hmmmm ... how scientific. The same folks also think that the gum wall in Seattle, which is (surprise!) a wall people stick their gum on is the second dirtiest, followed by Oscar Wilde's grave (that's a little more believable). Apparently, old human slobber is more unhygienic than bird poo, since St. Marks Square, in Venice, which is pretty much plastered with bird crap, is only number four.
So remember, when you kiss that rock trying to get "the gift of gab," you might actually be getting "the gift of cold sores."

When my husband and son were in Ireland and were going to visit the Blarney Stone, the proprietor of the B&B where they were staying told them that the local kids go there and pee on it. She strongly advised them not to kiss it.

I am pretty sure that any bacteria or virus are unable to survive on a hard non-pourous surface. If it would, the life span would be very short.

I don't see how that can be true. The Blarney stone is at the top of Blarney Castle, where you climb numerous steps to reach. The entrance is monitored. This is not some large stone lying out in the open. I have been there and kissed the stone and I am still alive and well and that's no "blarney."

When I kissed the Blarney Stone, I lifted my head too early and left a little of my DNA on the stone.

I work with a gentleman who was born and raised in Ireland. He confirmed that at night, when the locals come out of the bars, their favorite spot to relieve themselves is the stone. I would never even touch it, let alone kiss it.

Go on Utube and type in the name of the rock and i found a video of what these people there do to that stone. ITS UNSPEAKABLE!!! some kids were peeing on the thing, spit all over it, wipe it with bugs, and also put these nasty creations of food on there. Then a couple came and kissed on it!!! i was so shoked

A few years ago we went to Washington, D.C. during the 4th of July. When we went to see the memorials I just couldn't believe the amount of trash and filth filling the parks where they're located. Even the ponds were just slick with this oily surface. And the smell was foul as well. You'd think that our nation's capital would be a hell of a lot cleaner!!!! At least in the parks!

The scientist failed to take into account the local teens and what impact they would have in this study....... peeing on the stone could wash away bacteria..... pucker up?
