The Internet is a great place to buy weird stuff. So is China! But apparently, their bizarro powers combined are cause for consternation, as China is putting the kibosh on online sales of bottled saliva from "pretty girls."Yup -- until recently, you could literally swap spit (for cash) on Taobao.com, the Chinese equivalent of eBay, for about $3.25 per bottle. The unidentified seller was shilling it as a "tonic," promising that it had been collected from the mouths of pretty 18-year-old girls while they were sleeping. (Ummmmm ... why is that so terrifying?) The product was banned after dozens of complaints from Web surfers who, just a hunch, were probably incredibly grossed out. The ad for the spit also contains a picture of one of the girls the drool is "harvested" from.
The man responsible said he only wanted to test out the popularity of his idea, which, it turns out, was not very popular at all -- he hasn't sold one bottle. At least that's something to be thankful for.
