Kids today are entertained by talking toys, floating houses and adorable robots. What did we get when we were kids? DEATH, that's what. Sure, "Up"'s widower backstory is a bummer, but it's nothing like the animal brutality of some classic flicks. You could bet if there was an animal involved in a movie, it was going to end up pumped full of lead. "All Dogs Go to Heaven" wasn't just a movie -- it was a rule. If "Air Bud" had come out in 1986, he would be slam-dunking the dirt instead of playing soccer in a straight-to-video sequel.
Click below to see -- for our money -- the most emotionally scarring animal movie deaths in recent memory (warning: spoilers) and be sure to comment on any traumas we forgot. And if you're feeling really bummed out by these sad animal deaths, check our easy ways to get happy in a flash.

Kids shouldn't see? Do you think adults are going to go and see Bambi on a date? how about Ole Yeller on a first date? That will really set the mood for the night. THESE movies are for children. These kind of movies allow children to live outside of their glass bubble that liberalism has built around them. I honestly can't believe this a serious article.

I would suggest you look up the definition of liberalism. It seems out of context in your comment and doesn't make much sense.

Absolutely. The lessons in these wonderful films teach to kids is to learn empathy for animals. What kind of world do you want if the kids have no emotions that engender the positive sides that saddness brings. Its like all those kids with allegies cause Mom wouldn't let them play in the dirt. The dummies. The kids never had to chance to build an immune system. This article was written by a person with just that lack or it would never have come up. After watching 'are you smarter than a fifth grader' we are raising a world of dumb shits.

With all the other things out there that are actually harmful to children, I can't believe this is actually a topic. If children are not allowed to see and understand the death of an animal, how is it going to affect them when someone close to them passes? Children are much more resilient than adults give them credit for. I would rather see an article about the effect of violence on prime time television and games. And what about trying to make children think it is normal for homosexuals to have a relationship by having a gay couple in everything on television and at the movies? That is something my children find more traumatizing than the death of a pet in a movie.

The point dano, is that in the fifties (when not everybody had a tv and going to the movies was a big deal for children), every childrens movie included a death scene. My mother used to comment that Disney couldn't make a movie that didn't have a heart wrenching death. I don't agree that something or someone has to die in a movie to teach children "reality". Let children be little and have some blissful innocence about the misery in the world before they have to deal with the realities of life, like the loss of a parent or sibling, or the death of a pet. Childrens movies should be entertaining and light hearted, not emotionally draining.

Don't you mean the "politically-correct" agenda being forced down our throats by the left-leaning, main-stream media?

Does anyne remember a really old one; The Yearling? Not only does the kid's best friend die of tuberculosis, but he is forced to shoot his pet deer. Ouch!

Right on! This is the problem with the children growing up today. They are sheltered from real life and Disney's genius all too often. The poor little dears might learn how to cope after the tears. This coming generation may have the intelligence, but will end up totally dependent on their parents if things don't turn around, and soon!

YOU ARE RIGHT. PLUS THE MOVIES THAT ARE MADE TODAY ARE FULL OF BLOOD AND CORE YET LIBS HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH LETTING A KID BE EXPOSED TO THESE TYPES OF MOVIES AND TELEVISION PROGRAMS. IN THEIR TIME TV PROGRAMS LIKE "ROSANNE " AND "MARRIED WITH CHILDREN' AND OTHERS OF THAT ILK, TAUGHT KIDS TO LOSE RESPECT FOR FAMILY VALUES . IF YOU THINK TRASH LIKE THIS IS OK FOR KIDS THEN YOU HAVE A BIGGER PROBLEM THEN YOUR KIDS.

I think people took this article too seriously I think it was really actually meant to be kind of amusing I mean read the statements after the pictures. This article wasn't meant to be taken as serious journalism. Come on people learn to laugh.

Maybe their should be an age limit set so children who are too young will not see this type of subject matter too soon. As they mature, there will be a good time to introduce such topics like death, illness, etc.

Protect – keep from harm
Caudle –keep child unprepared for real life
Your job, as a responsible parent, is to teach your child to be independent.

This is a reply to Alisa...Seriously...you think your children are being scarred by "homosexuals on tv"? Kids need to see on tv the reality that will be in their lives. The only reasons your children would be traumatized by seeing this is only by YOUR reaction to it and the nonsense you must be teaching them about it. Gays will be in their lives whether you like it or not. They are in every facet of society, not just the flower shops, beauty shops and dance halls. They are your firemen, policemen, construction workers and others that YOU in your obvious narrow mindedness would never think to find them. Gays are not the devils you would think them to be and i feel sorry for both you and your children that you would raise them in such a way that they could even slightly be traumatized by seeing gays on tv. I just hope they are strong enough to look past what you teach them, lord know our parents have a far stronger hold on us later in life than we like to admit, and that they will get to know people for who they are (not what they are stigmatized as) and form their own FACTUAL based opinions, on a per person basis, not forming the opinion for the whole group based on the actions of a possible few.
Sorry, off topic. On topic, yes i think children should be aware of these things. Otherwise we have a generation of children who blindly believe that as they go through life everything will be handed to them and come out all right without their really needing to do anything. They will grow up to be spoiled teens and bitter adults as they are ill equipped to handle the actual hardships in life and unable to comprehend that they have to work for what they want and can't just have it. We have already started seeing this in our youth. That's one reason why the current upcoming generation is the "Me" generation. There are more mental health issues now than ever, and most of those could be fixed but instead of keeping the hand a little firmer, people coddle children. I've seen it where a child does bad and should be reprimanded, yet when the person the child was bad toward says anything about that, the parent comes in and is all "don't you talk to my child, how dare you" and then the focus is on the other party, not the child. Top that off with the parent COMFORTING the child and not punishing at all! The child has just learned that it can DO WHAT IT WANTS with no significant punishment. It's a circle that i fear will go to far in society and is what will eventually cause our country to truly collapse. Can you envision a greater percentage of politicians than what we have now being spoiled and thinking it should all just go their way no matter what they have to do? All because we can't le them be harmed.....by reality.
