I think this is absolutely rediculous. I mean the Lion King, really? I loved this movie as a very little kid and I still love it today. I mean if not intended for a children audience then who else? I don't know of many adults that would want to go watch this movie with out a child. Besides children aren't hung up on horrible deaths like when Simba's dad is pushed off the rock, it not like they're going to think it's okay. They mostly concentrate on the songs, frienships made in the movie, and catchy phrases more so than the negative parts. To chastise this movie and say kids shouldn't wat it it totally outrageous and kind of sad, it's a classic and it should be watched by every kid.
Dang straight! I'm 14, I loved the Lion King when I was little. And I still do. When I first watched it I was sad, but as a kid I didn't really focus on it because of the songs and friendships.
I have seen most of these movies and don't have any "emotional scars" Kids are tough little buegers. GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they aren't going to freak out because someone died. DOn't be so protective you are ridiculous.
I see what they're saying. I know multiple children who spend at least one night bawling after watching Mufasa die in The Lion King. In fact, multiple families I know ban the movie from the house simply because it gets their kids too worked up and distressed. But, it is a good movie overall.
Whitney is so right, Lion king is the best movie lol still good to watch today, and if it's not for kids then come on whos it really for? The songs, friendships and catchy tunes are what still to this day draw kids, and even adults to watch this " best of it's times" movie. You cant mess with Lion king :)
I took my now 19 year old to see this on the day it premiered and I cried and he turned and looked at me nd gave me a hug...he and is mother then laughed at me on the way home. I was mad that Simba kicked the bucket more than my son. Maybe because it reminded me of "a betrayal" of trust that I had experienced 2 years before...either way, my son was fine the next day about Simba biting the bullet.
as a 5 yr old when i saw this, i was not hung up on the retarded songs. I always thought those were the worse parts. I was very annoyed that Simba thought he killed his father and I always felt like IF I was Simba, I would do this or this.. or I wished I could tell him that Scar did it...
I was really into the plot and what was taking place. Never cared for the music. Ever.
You're right it is a classic, but I think that instead of people not wanting their children to see the animal deaths, that by the way happen every day in the real life wild!! They need to be angry about the curse words that have been put in to the movies. When the Lion King first came out my 6 yr. old neice pointed out that when Simba was with Timon and Pumba in the middle of the night when Simba flops down on the edge of the cliff dirt flies out into the air, and in the dirt is SEX spelled out. Those are the parts that I think are really messed up!!!!!!
okay mufasa dying was to help young epople understand what its like to loose a family member. if you are seriously going to say that kids shouldnt watch it then you are insane. it teaches a valuable lesson about family and loss.
The only reason it bummed you out is because you parents could not explain to you what death is without lying. I am 19 going on 20 and still love that movie for its lessons. You would be a fool for not letting you kids see this movie
This is crazy !!! Yes a lot of these movies involve death however; we should not protect a child from viewing these movies because of the traumatic events that take place. I feel the parent, if they reviews the movie, knows what is going to happen and can prepare themselves for discussing this scent with the child. In real life something like this happens without warning and there is know preperation time to discuss such events. In a movie a parent knows what is going to happen and can choose to discuss this issue before the movie even begins. This movie is perfectly acceptable for a child and can actually be utilized as a tool for the parent to discuss death with a child. No one can plan death it is a part of life. Death will not hide itself from any age therefore we need to have a means of introduction in a controlled environment.
What are we suppose to do with our kids lock them in a see proof bubble. What happened to using these to open a disscusion about death. My kids were 2 & 3 when my grandpa passed away. They adored him and we were at their house often. They had to be explained to where he went and why. I did this it made life easier for me and them. You can not hide kids from what is going on around them. Another sad state of America in putting things in a neatly filed place. Makes me worried about where we are going with this. You may laugh, but this is another freedom be threatened
I dont agree that these are movies we shouldn't let children see but I completely understand where Ms. Smolinski is coming from because these are the saddest moments of my childhood! Seriously just thinking about Simbaa crying out daddy makes me wanna cry to this day, even while I'm typing this!!!
Okay, yeah, I liked Mufasa too. But seriously, is it really that terrible? Without his death, or most of the deaths in this list, there would be no story in any of the movies. It would be like watching the Notebook over and over all day. Boooorinnng!
I would rather have my kids watch this classic movie, and the others listed here, 1,000 times a day over that Dora crap with the random nonsense about backpacks.
At least they will learn about emotions and how much they can mean.
They just dont make movies like they used to, which is a sad, sad, thing.
