You are right!! There was another monkey that died of radiation sickness I think. This is what prompted Them to try and save Virgil

I was and remain SO grateful to the producers of "Project X." They successfully educated the public about the tortures which are inflicted upon innocent animals by scientists in general and our government in particular. This is a GOOD and important thing for people to know, and it is the truth. I'm sure many viewers became sensitized to this issue and interested in getting involved in the movement to end cruelty to animals in its myriad forms (laboratory experiments, hunting and trapping, factory farming, puppy milling, fur production, slaughter of whales and dolphins, etc., etc.).

It's funny how people will get all riled up over deaths in a movie, yet they will have witchcraft movies. They'll encourage Harry Potter and other sorcery movies. Atleast death is realistic, and not brainwash.

Some ppl need to realize that children nowadays are soo desensitized when it comes to movies. I went to see 'Up' with my a friend and our kids and we were actually bored. We thought the beginning was un-necessary but I guess it was needed as a reason to explain why the lil old man wanted to go away to Paradise Falls. But 1/2 of these movies I grew up with in the 80's especially, Project X, I had a thing for Matthew Broderick and the chimps. Virgil, Ginger, Bluebeard, Goliath, Goofy, Ethel and so on...I seriously can't believe I rem the names! All of these movies were awesome and my daughter has seen all of them and half the time these kids do not have the attention span to even really pay any mind to what is going on.

GREAT MOVIE. I know I cried when poor Goliath had no idea he was about to be radiated. That sucked. I cant even imagine what a child would think. I dont remember what the movie was rated but even so, its these kind of movies that remind us of the harsh realities that really go on. (Not that there doing these kind of experiments) but pretty close to it which makes it all the more sad.

Sway, you're wrong. They DO do exactly these experiments as portrayed in "Project X." There was a retired Air Force researcher who had actually worked on these type of horrible experiments while he was in the service. He later repented his involvement, became active in the animal rights movement, and served as a consultant on this film. His name was Donald Barnes.

Pam,
I didnt know this. I mean i know they do horrible experiments to animals but never did I think they would really do anything like what they did in Project X. Its one of my favorite movies. Unbelievable! Thats for your reponse.

Another movie that should be noted is, "My Dog Skip". The pet dies in the end - but of old age when his owner, the narrator, is away at college. It is very sad (2 kids and I sitting on the couch with tears running down our faces) but also realistic - many, if not most pets die of old age or illness. It is very painful, but since nearly all pets live a much shorter time than humans, somewhere along the way we lose them and have to cope, mourn, and when ready, love again.
But "The Yearling" is one of the worst for me to watch because a kid was expected to do something that any decent adult would have handled for him.

My friend and i saw a very short trailer for the movie where it shows Matthew Broderick showing the chimps how to fly the plane. We thought it was a comedy. When i was 14 my room was practically wallpapered with pictures of apes. I was shocked to say the least.

Virgil didn't die! The choker was when Goliath died. I mean I cried buckets. The gentle, chain-smoking giant didn't have a prayer of making it through this movie. I guess they went or the obvious "smoking kills", but shucks...so does being in Matthew Boderick movies. They could've @ least gave the poor chimp a smoke and a light. He earned it! Truth!

this movie changed my life as a child. I was so aware of cosmetics testing I have never bought aANYTHING that tests on animals. Made my mom do the same before I was 12 yrs old. This movie is very important. Most of this movie kids should not see til much older, but something like Bambi helped me understand life goes on after death, and when my dad died when I was 12, I was much more prepared for it.
