I didn't see Babe mentioned anywhere. How about the 1988 Disaster My Little Pony, Escape from Katrina? Marley and Me was the worst! Bambi was horrible. I took my daughter and as soon as Bambi's mother was shot and Bambi cryed out Mom? Mom? And she knew Mom was never going to answer again. She stood up and said she wanted to go home. when I aksed her why, she said any movie that starts with a dead Mother wasn't going to be any fun for her. We left and she is now 25, she has never seen the rest of the movie. She is now mature, happy, well adjusted, well educated and works with handicapped children. To the people strongly stating death is part of life, you are correct. However, I do not believe young children who are shielded from "casual violence" are weak. Children are so sensitive, why put a senseless murder in the opening scenes? They are only little for a very brief time, I think if we use our imaginations we can come up with some better (and happier) entertainment. Homeward Bound was wonderful and everyone survived!
Are you forgetting that Bambi, even though his mother died and the 'absentee' father, went on? He grew up and became a buck himself. Do you think that the message could be that even though times are hard and people (things) die, you must go on with your life and do what you have to do to survive? Maybe you should look at the friendships that Bambi had. Look to others for help to get you through the hard times. Have you thought about that. The movie has lots of points - not just the death.
Of course there will be DEATH and that is because the movie TEACHES your children how to overcome a lost one. The main character experiences a tragic loss but it shows the kids how the main character overcomes the difficulty.
You're not helping your kids by not teaching them about the harsh world.
Jesus, deer die every day and its a fact of life. This actually happens in real life, the doe's die, and the fawn is left alone by him/herself or left with the father. This movie is appropriate for kids because its teaching them about life. Jesus Christ
I think that some things are and aren't right. The things in these movies could happen in real life and kids need to learn about them, they can't be protected forever. They need to know that animals and people die b/c of there heath and b/c of other people.
Well I agree but disagree @ the sane time. The traumatic events do occur in the childs life and need to learn about them and I would kind of ignore the crying because when animals die it will make the Earth go round and round and its just the way of life! And I agree because they will not stop crying. :)
Get real!. These are movies and like others say, this is reality. Why do we hide from what life has to bring us or offer us. Thank goodness, that my son is grown and I have no small kids at home. He saw all of these movies and never had a complaint, or cried, or nightmares. Parents of TODAY....Give me a break and get over it.
I'm sorry, but I have to totally disagree. Emotions are for everybody of all ages because that is what why we are human. A friend of mine lost his mom in an accident when he was young and he remembers watching Bambi with her growing up and that movie has always been a part of his life. In fact I know a few times he probably wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for the movie to show strength in anything that is tossed to you there is always a way out of to be stronger. It's amazing how people get paid to write stuff like this and ruin the past times of when others grew up. Next going to tell me to stop watching Snow White and the Seven Dwarves because it teaches kids to have sex with 7 people at one time. Please get a new profession if this is the case..and before you start trashing the movies of the old times look at the movies being created today and what they stand for and critique those.
videos and comments like these are what we get for electing Obama lol.... And this is where the PETA group comes from..... "O dont shoot the innocent deer, what did it do to you"? but what do you do when you let the deer multiply and then YOU die when you run into one on the highway, because their popoulation got too high???hmmmm gonna have to say the same about the rest of the movies too.... if kids dont learn early that death is a part of life in humans AND animals, then they will probably all become homosexual and the world will have no use for them... lmao this is REALLY pathetic....Grow a dick people...
Dumb, dumb and dumber goes to describe the author and most respondants. Disney did more to harm suburbinites, city folks view of the world outside their narrow perspecitive and understanding of nature and wildlife than Marlin Perkins did with his staged wildlife t.v. shows. However, Old Yeller is a classic in that real dogs die, we out live them, sometimes we have to put them down ourselves, or should. There are no 'good' animals or 'bad' animals, but there are for people for sure. Oh and your sexist new age politically correct, ergo new age liberated women or even wimpy men want to equate deer or most wildlife then with being raised by absentee Dads, ergo the buck in Bambi, you are stupid, nieve and uneducated twits. Get a life, get a job, get out in the wild and experience something. I once watched a family from S. Africa cry when the observed a cheetah family kill and consume a small yearling gazelle. While we four on safari watched in utter awe at the rare opportunity to see how the world really works as well the sociological, albeit psychological observation of a family who obviously in tears had been raised into believing Bambi was real. dumbasses all. Here is your sign(s).
bambi ok..i watched this when i was 5 it helps us learn that dying is normal and its what makes the world go around.. are they gonna ban lion king cuz mufasa dies? i think not
Seriously? Bambi? The land before time? The lion king? The neverending story? jeez is everyone today fucking stupid? Stop babying your kids we grew up on this stuff they are made for you guessed it FOR KIDS! your insane if your too overprotective to let your kids watch any of the movies I listed...
Okay, I remember when The Lion King came out and I watched it as a little kid. When Mufasa died I cried like a baby for hours...and continue to cry every time a person or animal dies in any movie. Seeing an animal die didn't harm me emotionally as some people assume it would. It taught me that some things are sad, and bad things can happen at any time; however, I should be happy that things worked out in the end. Also, in the end, even a kid realizes at least it is just a movie and it didn't really happen. I would have to say that there are far worse movies out there than a movie where an animal is killed. A.k.a. Movies where people kill eachother on purpose and without remorse. Now there's a childhood trauma waiting to happen.

And then they made a sequel where Bambi and his dad were BFF's. Probably so kids would forget mommy was dead.
