What happened when they were writing this script!?! "Say, let's put in a pony, for the kids, and then drown it in a SWAMP OF SADNESS. Sound good? Great."
LOOKING THROUGH THE TOP 10 MOVIES BROUGHT BACK MEMORY BUT WHAT'S FRESH IN MY MIND THAT I WATCH LAST WEEK WAS IS THE 2008 MOVIE "MARLEY & ME" THAT IS TODAY TRAGIC DOG STORY MOVIE, I COULDN'T HOLD BACK TEARS.
Oh my gosh, what about Dumbo? When Mom was in the cage for being a wild elephant for protecting her baby and held him in her trunk, I lost it. I still can't watch Dumbo or Bambi.
You folks left out a " TRUE" hero in " Mighty Joe Young" . The look in his eyes as the water rose, keeping his huge soft hand above the water so that the Humans that wanted to imprison him survive.....
Well, this is the very reason that when we have boys sent to our military school. They cannot cope with the reality of rules and 'life in the real world' Sometime I see the same thing with the parents. I saw a lot of these as a young child too. Funny, my parents did something that taught me to cope. They EXPLAINED things to me! As a result this gave me a realistic look at the way life is and is not. I tell you parents want the TV and OTHER people to explain the way life is and then they become upset when a teacher, counselor, or even a movie says, "Sorry this is the way life is and this is the things that really happen. As many have said on this comment section, you cannot live life in a bubble. It is better to take a little poison at a time like the ancient king and become immune than to have the 'bubble' burst later and have no immunity at all.
Okay, just to start out with, Never ending Story was an old Children's Book, the writter's were just fallowing the story line. but moving on, I've seen that, Bambi, The dinosaur one, and Lion King many of times when I was a little kid, and I don't recall being scared for life.
What about the Secret of N.I.M.H. that movie was so deep, and rats/mice were dying and murdering left and right.
And the first few min. of Finding Nemo were unbearable. Nemo's mom's death was so tragic. My girlfriends and I almost got up and left the theater - and we were in high school, lol
I understand that the "death scenes" in The Lion King, Land Before Time, Bambi, and Never Ending Story are sad, but not to the point where your child is going to get emotionaly scarred I mean really. As far as the other movies on that list...they aren't childrens movies...a lot of those are PG which means your child should be the correct age to see them. I can't tell you how many times I have seen a parents bring their children to movies that they have no business seeing. As a parent it's your job to gage what your child can handle. If your child happens to get nightmares about a movie you thought they could handle....now you've learned your lesson. Its part of being a parent DUH!
I think kids should read this article then go out and watch those movies just to see what kind of IDIOTS are writing this junk! They're simply movies. At times, yes, they can be sad, but death is a part of life...so don't worry your tiny, atom sized specks of brains about it. They'll come back in the next script.
I have enough sense to decide what my children should and should not watch.....too many people have forgotten to use their own common sense about things. What is good for my family, might not be good for yours and vice versa....thank you...I am smart enough to decide without AOL's "experts?????" telling me what we should and shouldn't watch.
How about Nestor, The Long Earred Christmas Donkey?A very old movie. Nestor and his Mom get kicked out of the stable because of Nestor's very long ears.A snow blizzard came upon them that night, and Mom covered Nestor's body to keep him warm.In the morning when the blizzard was over, Nestor awoke to a dead mother. She saved his life. Then the story goes on to show how he suffered abuse because of his ears. Finally he got chosen to carry Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem because of his kind eyes.He protects Mary in a sand storm with his big ears. You cry through the whole movie, but it does have a happy ending with him being hailed as a hero.
Little Drummer Boy is along the same lines. The boy's home is firebombed by bandits and the only survivors were he and his two animals, a lamb and a camel. His parents were dead. They wander in the desert with his drum and dancing until a con artist shows up on the scene kidnapping them to force them to perform dances in the city for him.The boy hates people and the conartists have to paint a smile on the kid.Later, a soldier's chariot runs over his lamb and he is near death. It does have a happy ending because he plays his drum for baby Jesus and the lamb is healed.
Yes, these are sad to watch. But it is true that we can't shelter kids from the pain of life.Parents should use the opportunity to talk about things that happen in the movies. Explain that death is a part of life.Answer their questions and fears. Point out that there is good that does come out of it. Things work out in the end etc. I think the problem is when kids are exposed to things and they don't have anyone to talk about the feelings they had.
Life is Natural and so is Death, Death is Natural, most pets have shorter life spans then their owners, so you can get a puppy at 60 and still be around when it passes away when your 75.
As long as the Death is Natural and part of the Movie Storyline then I have no problem.
Readers Digest almost has a story about someones pet and almost always in the end the pet dies.
Sadly a lot of people who get worked up over pet deaths , are also Pro Choice and do not shed a tear when the yet to be born human beings are murdered.
Don't forget Snow White - the Queen sends the woodsman to kill Snow White, raises the knife above very frightened SW. Late, SN runs through a very dark forest with scary noises.
My 7 year old recently watched Old Yeller and cried a lot. Afterwards we had a family discussion about how everything- dogs, plants, people are going to eventually die and that it's all part of God's plan. He was fine after that. These movies are sad, but they do help kids to deal with their feelings and acknowledge that death happens, so that hopefully when it happens to someone (person or animal) dear to them they are better prepared to deal with it.
Marley & Me is definitely the ultimate heartbreaker, tear-jerker death of an animal/pet movie ever! It is also very realistic and I think it is healthy for kids to see a movie like this and understand the cycle of life and the feelings of love and loss.
The death of the dog in I Am Legend was also extremely sad...

animal deaths in movies really help children deal with real life in case they lose a pet of their own so get over it.

Good Grief...
Welcome to the real world... sometime you laugh and sometimes you cry. All normal emotions.
Heck, keep kids from reality and when it finally hits thing in the real world they will have no idea how to cope.
Heck, maybe we shouldn't even talk about the real Easter Story.. stick to the bunny and the eggs... and forget about the crusifixion....

This is THE stupidest thing I've ever seen!!!! No frickin wonder kids are growing up like sheltered pansies. The liberal left wing -- at it again.
Absolutely the most asinine article ever written. And we wonder why the United States is going to hell in a handbag
