Facebook has been criticized a lot lately: as a time-suck at best, and just plain sucky at worst. But it's been responsible for at least one good thing lately: reuniting a mother with her son, who was kidnapped 27 years ago.

Gavin Paros's non-custodial father picked him up for a trip "to the zoo" 27 years ago and never brought him home. Instead his dad took him to Hungary, and his mother, Avril Grube, was unable to locate them. This year, finally, Avril's sister decided to use the world's greatest detective -- the Internet -- to find him. Lo and behold, there he was, on Facebook.

Gavin says he had been looking for his family for several years. The reunion couldn't come at a more critical time, since Ms. Grube recently suffered a stroke. Hopefully, the good news will speed her recovery so she and Gavin can do some much needed catching-up.
