Q: I'm a middle-school teacher, and I just bought this white suit for my eighth graders' graduation ceremony. I know white is hard to wear, but I think it looks pretty good on me. How can I make it look even better?

-- Vanessa, 27, Wakefield, Mass.

A: First off, you look great. But, 'tis true: Unless you're a walking celery stalk, white can be hard to wear. I like that you chose a suit with a full leg and wide lapels -- both will work to balance your top half with your bottom half, creating a flattering hourglass shape. To elongate your frame even further, play with height and proportion when accessorizing the look. The key here is to create the outfit version of a flow chart (you always want to keep the eye moving). Here's what we think will help you do just that.

Instead of a stuffy button-front shirt (you said you were a teacher, not a librarian, right?), try a long tunic like this one by Forever 21. The few inches of fabric that extend below the hem of your blazer will lengthen your midsection and cover up any (eek) pocket show-through.

A dainty chain necklace will really bring my lengthening point (above) home by creating a long, lithe line from neck to tummy. I like this one by Nicole Romano.

For shoes, try a platform sandal in taupe, camel or off-white like this pair by Yves Saint Laurent. The 4-inch heel will give you the right amount of height while the platform will keep you steady on your feet (no wipeouts at the podium here).

Finally, a simple bangle set like this one by Charlotte Russe is the perfect finishing touch: A subtle pop of color will give the outfit another focal point.
