We give Obama's choice of Puerto Rican judge Sonia Sotomayor for Supreme Court Justice a big thumbs-up. Here's why:

1. She fights the good fight. Described by a colleague as "tough and tenacious as well as smart," liberals love her and she doesn't kowtow to interest groups or the media. And in some cases, not even the government -- calling their evidence of drug dealing in a Hell's Angels-owned building "scanty."

Read two more reasons we're behind Sotomayor after the jump.

2. She knows what the eff she's doing. The Princeton and Yale grad has served under the Bush senior and Clinton administrations, and her supporters contend this appointment was a long time coming.

3. Obviously, it's empowering to her community to have the first Hispanic nominated to this position. Obama has been criticized for overlooking the group in his cabinet, so this is a strong move politically for his administration. And then there's her uniquely American story: Raised in a modest single-mother household in the South Bronx, she truly epitomizes the self-made woman.
