What happens when you combine two rights to make an even more delicious right? Heaven, that's what. Last week, Domino's started offering its new pasta dishes ... served in bread bowls. We haven't found the entrees' nutritional info online yet, but given that carbs are as addictive as illicit drugs, we consider this to be the culinary equivalent of a heroin overdose. (Consider the implications of "Three Cheese Mac-N-Cheese -- A blend of two cheddars and mozzarella tossed with penne pasta and baked to a creamy perfection.") This potentially could be the meal that pushes us over the edge, our culinary "Requiem for a Dream" moment. But with a faltering economy and swine flu, frankly, who cares?

In fact, each Pasta Bread Bowl is considered two servings (whether you share it or eat it all in one sitting is your choice), and the calories for both servings range from 670-740, with 24-28 grams of fat per Pasta Bread Bowl (meaning your individual serving is 335-370 calories). That's no health food, for sure, but still, it's way better than what I would have guessed. (And yes, this information was verified by Domino's PR.)

I would be less upset about the big national pizza chains squeezing out some of the regional chains IF they would be consistant in making their pizzas with care.
I guess Pizza Hut is the best out of the big chains (though I was going to try Dominos again) but no matter which place I choose there seems to be an inconsistancy in cooking from pizza to pizza. Pizza's dry out very fast when over cooked even a little.
This is annoying. I have had parties ruined because the pizza wasn't made right, and I never know what I will get until I open the box. The big chains pushed my favorite small chains, Round Table out of delivery range, and Shakey's out of resonable driving range.
I don't get this. I can heat Red Barron frozen pizza that would taste 10x better. People make fun of McDonalds asemblyline style, but at least all their food taste right every time.
I am kind of hoping a take n' bake pizza franchise comes to my area soon.

Woah. Its probably just the place you get your dominoes at... you do realize that it is a bit more than a tiny chain that delivers. I would bet that there are 3 in your area.
Red Baron? Even in high school as a Sophmore i realized how bad that pizza was compared to most everything else. Dominoes is 10x better. I have 15 within 15 miles (no joke - i will give you my address if you want to test me). 13 out of 15 of those deliver delicious pizzas - never dissatisfied.
I am no advocate but I love Papa Johns and I love Dominoes. If your issue happens more than twice at the same place, then obviously it is time to change locations from where you order.

I eat pizza from everywhere all week long and I can at least say that Dominoes is as consistent as any other smaller chain pizza place around. You just have to realize that like in any production industry - the more products that you pump out, the more failures/error you get in a batch. However, the failure rate is STILL THE SAME. Smaller chains (aka 1 or 2 pizza shops) may have a failure rate of 10%. But because there are only two places, you rarely see those failures. Because Dominoes has so many locations, that 10% failure rate is more apparent but it doesn't mean it isn't as consistent in comparison.
It's safe to assume that you simply picked a bad batch. That's why I say change your locations from where you order, Karen.

Hey Kyle. Since my first post I have tried the Dominos mac and cheese bread bowl once, and a pepperoni pizza twice. The bread bowl pasta was great. I'd give it a 9 out of 10, the cheese could be a little sharper.
The pizza was not my style. A sour salty sauce, paper thin pepperoni, and slightly burnt tasting crust ( which is what I remembered about Dominos)
The three smaller chains I mentioned are not 2 or 3 locations. They are regional chains mostly in California and a few other west coast states. Unfortunately they have just been closed in my delivery area. And yes when I get a Red Barron frozen pizza it most resembles what I grew up with in California. Sweet sauce, crispy cracker like crust, and spicy pepperoni.
We shouldn't have to change locations to get the pizza right. That's why these chains are corporations there is suppose to be a method that is followed at each location to assure uniformity.
Right now I like Pizza Hut, they have the sweet sauce I like. But I prefer Papa Johns for chicken pizza, breadsticks, and their pastries.
