It's finally happened! A girl pitched a perfect game in Little League. Against a bunch of puny boys who crumbled before her mighty arm. Totally awesome.Twelve-year old Mackenzie Brown figured out in the fourth inning that something magical was happening and tried not to "mess it up." And she certainly didn't disappoint. Officials of the Bayonne, N.J., Little League team say it's the first perfect game they've seen pitched by a girl. It is estimated that nationwide there are only maybe 50 or 60 perfect games per year -- nobody knows for sure if any of them have been pitched by girls.
As an added bonus, Mackenzie got to toss the opening pitch at Citi Field when the Mets took on the Washington Nationals. Next year she plans on making the switch to softball with the hopes of eventually getting a college scholarship. If she's pitching perfect games at 12, that's not so hard to imagine.
