Admit it: Groomed dogs and cats look hilarious. The clippers come out and suddenly your dignified-looking Persian is reduced to a scraggly tail and a scrawny body. These dogs and cats know exactly what we're talking about. Check out their ridiculous new looks.

I agree this is cruel to do to animals and these people should be arrested and not allowed to own pets. The cats fur has oils in it to keep thier skin from drying and becoming irritated and should never be shaved down like that. Groomed and trimmed fine not shaved unless for an emergency. Cats do go outside or sit in windows and thier exposed skin leaves them open to infection and sun damage. I see some pet owners defending this as not abuse and those people shouldn't have pets either.

This poor animal obviously underwent surgery and was not shaved for looks. It still is in the hospital and has an IV attatched to it. I have a dog that recently underwent major surgery and I could not bring myself to shave the rest of her down for estetics. IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE HAIR, WE HUMANS HAVE CREATED HAIRLESS PETS FOR YOU- STOP THE CRUELTY!!! Our animals are not our toys and deserve their coats and dignity. They need protection, not our clippers! How selfish.

By umm... what?
What about pets (say, golden retrievers or huskies) that have been taken out of their natural environment to, say, Florida or Hawaii? Is shaving them down cruel then? I think not. My golden was always relieved when he got shaved, because it got rid of all his extra fur when he was between the winter and summer coats in Florida. Also, cats and dogs can tan or burn the same as any human, and I haven't yet met one who got burned by sitting in front of a window. All shaving them does is force them to get a haircut. While it may not be the natural way of things, it isn't natural for humans to cut their hair either, and we have done it for millenia with no detrimental effects to our health. Jeez, people! Stop acting like it's the end of the world!

MY GOD. For all you stupid people out there who think shaving their pets is a good idea, think about, would you like have your body protection taken away? It's like making humans wear summer clothes in the winter. Honestly, their fur is the only thing really protecting them from the dangers of the house. Even DUSTBUNNIES. That's right, dustbunnies can hurt animals.
You guys are pathetic, shaving your animals. God. -.-'

First of all: Please leave hair cutting to the trained professionals. Second:Make sure you know what cut you are asking for. Third: Understand that shaving some pets is neccessary due to neglect, medical reasons, and convience. allergies in pets cause allot of Long haired thick coated dogs to have to be shaved ( at least here in Texas.) Cats if not brushed properly will matt and harbor tons of fleas due to the thick coat of long haired cats. So I wouldn't judge on the hair cut choices of people for their pets. At least they are making an effort to make the pet comfortable!!!!

I can not even believe the comments I am reading onthis page. i am actually laughing.. I have three cats. A short hair and medium hair and a long haired.. My long haired is shavedas a Lion and it is the most cutest thing ever and he is so happy about it.. his fur was getting matted all around him bum and under his chest I knew that it was making him soar. He is loving life... you people that are making this sound like animal cruelty really need to check yourselves.. there are a lot more worse things going on in the world to animals that are considered cruelty then getting the hair cut.... give me a break.

I had a wonderful Wire Haired Terrier / Lasa Apso mix (lost her after 20 wonderful years together) that by the time she was a year old was shaved every spring when it started getting hot...at the suggestion of our Vet! He told me that because of her heavy under coat that she would really suffer with the heat. I have dealt with heat strokes and heat exhaustion in dogs befor and the heat is more dangerous for the pets than for humans. WE can take off our heavy coats, dogs and cats can't...THATS WHY WE LOVING, CARING, CONSIDERATE PET OWNERS TAKE THEM TO A GROOMER AND GET THEM SHEARED!

LMAO, You guys honestly think this is animal cruelty? Does it hurt to have your hair cut or to shave your legs? This is crazy that our economy is suffering so bad and their is starving children out there and you have time to actually worry about a dog and what kind of hair cut they have. Whats wrong with you people. Must be city folks.....

I have a 1 year old pomeranian and I had taken him to the groomers to have him clipped for the summer because he was shedding a lot and it was so hot outside that he was absolutely miserable. Now when got him back that day he was shedding more than ever was still hot so we took the clippers and did it a little closer to his skin. He looks funny but he is cooler and doesn't shed. Like a friend had said before they can't see themselves in the mirror they just like it because it is cooler.

Why would u do that to ur persian? they r known for thier fur! Gross. Anyways, my dog, Sparky, has really nice fur, but its summer time, and he gets hot alot, so I am thinking of taking him to the grommer, for a cut not a shave. he is a long hair chihuahua. I have never done this before, kinda scared that something will happen, but its for the best.

All these "cruelty to animals" people need to lighten up. It is NOT abusive to shave an animal unless you're turning them loose in the elements. However, when they're lounging around in a climate-controlled home, they're probably not at all bothered by the lack of fur. Why don't you people find something worthwhile to be outraged about, like poverty and child abuse?
