In a famous 1940 experiment, sociologists asked black kids if they'd rather play with a black doll or a white one -- and 63 percent said they'd rather play with the white doll. More disturbingly, a whopping 44 percent said the white doll looked more like them.

Fast-forward 69 years. With our nation's first black president and White House family, are kids' answers a little different?

Today, 88 percent of the children identified with the black doll -- a promising progression in black children's self-image. Sadly, 47 percent of kids found the white doll prettier, proving we've still got miles to go.
