"Grey Gardens" is the sad story of Edith Bouvier Beale and her daughter, Little Edie, two eccentric ("eccentric" doesn't even begin to cover it) distant relatives of Jackie O who were found living in squalor and decrepitude in the Hamptons in the 1960s. In 1975, filmmakers Albert and David Maysles made a documentary about the pair, and 20 years later the documentary was made into a Broadway musical. This year, the cult film was adapted to the small screen, and stars Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore as mother and daughter spinning quietly out of control. Normally, the idea of a fictional adaptation of a documentary would make us wretch, but this actually looks REALLY GOOD.

Big Edie was Jackie's aunt (her father's sister) -- Little Edie was her first cousin. When the story became public in the mid 1970s, Ari O dropped some cash to fix the place up.

I've already seen the original documentary, and I don't believe that anything can be as incredible as that. I'd rather watch the documentary again and leave the others alone. Nothing is as amazing as watching the 2 real Bouvier's ,they're not even acting!

Why in the world would I want to see a knock off Grey Gardens when I can see the REAL thing with the real people in the REAL house and authentic Gardens? No, thanks. Face it Hollywood, Reality is coming to take you away......

This is about Jackie's family, but if you want to read about another whack-job, pick up "Torn Lace Curtain". It's about Rose Kennedy. It's incredible. A few things I remember is she would fly to Paris to get new gowns for the Palm Beach season. Her secretary would make her buy a coach class ticket and have them note "No Meal". Rose said they will charge me extra. How ironic one of the richest women in the world would fly coach with a sandwich in a bag to go to Paris to purchase expensive evening gowns. When a newlywed she lived at another address. That house had lace curtains. When they moved to Hyaniss, Rose kept them. She and the secretary were in the attic one night. Rose said "Oh don't throw those away, we can use them" They were literally falling apart. In Palm Beach the neighbors would see her sneak thru the hedges and jump in their pool. She said if she used hers, it would get dirty and the pool man would charge extra. Even when first married, Jackie had to call her Mrs. Kennedy. Even if it was stiffling hot, she forbade the driver from putting on the a/c in the car because it was too expensive. It's a quick read. Rose was a strange bird....
