Sadly, women using illegal (and potentially unsafe) methods to abort their unborn babies is nothing new. But according to the American Life League, an increasing number of rural teens are ingesting medicine intended for livestock to end their pregnancies.
The allegations have since been used by both right-to-lifers sickened that girls would "drink poison" rather than "bear their child in love" and pro-choicers pointing out the consequences of a lack of access to legal, medical abortion.
But considering the whole article (and the American Animal Hospital Association warning, which seems to have been removed from the site) is based on what seems to be rumor among teens and conjecture from the lips of Right to Life advocates, we're questioning whether this whole DIY abortion "scare" is really happening at all.
However you feel about abortion, we think both pro-life and pro-choice organizations should probably leave the news reporting to the at-least-sort-of-objective professionals.

that's sad that kids in rural places would have to do that- if this story is even true. I mean- if i was a scared kid with no access whatsoever to a clinic, who the hell knows...
But that shouldn't even happen. Sexual health clinics need to be worldwide and easily accessible. People need to have access to the right information, condoms, birth control, and, if they choose to do so, have an abortion.
To think that kids won't have sex no matter what their upbringing (hello---bristol palin!!!!) is just dumb. And to have religion come into this whole factor pisses me off. I think every woman has the right to choose. Mistakes happen.
Abortion should not be used as a form of birth control, but shit happens. No one's perfect. I've been lucky and never had any accidents....but accidents happen constantly. I would o ape shit if i was walking into a clinic to have an abortion and people were protesting and saying shit.

Wow I really hope that this isn't true!! But then again what won't kids do. I knew a girl who took a full months of birth control in one day for a homemade abortion or something. That's just terrible. I don't believe in abortion, but that is my opinion. I can't, and wouldn't, stop someone else it's there body and what not. But really there are so many other options and I hope the pregnant person really explores those options first. So many people are looking to adopt babies, like people that can't have them. Don't do it because you think your parents will be mad at you if they find out or because you just don't want the baby, give it up to someone who will. And yes a "fetus" is alive. Love to all. =]

I agree that teens should be able to have an abortion if they so wish, but the month worth of pills? Well they clearly don't know how those pills work and shouldn't be using them unless you do. They trick the body to think its preg, and then no longer producing eggs. Those pills wouldn't cause an abortion. But the hormones that they give off, small as they are by themselfs, might kill you if taken all at once. No matter what a person chooses to do with their body, know the facts first.
