Yet another way that men and women are different: We don't perceive beauty in the same way.

Researchers asked 20 men and women to assess paintings and photographs of urban and rural settings. They determined that women use both sides of their brains to judge beauty while men use just the right half. The University of California, Irvine, experts think women focus more on the details of a piece of art -- the position of all of the objects in it, for instance -- while men literally see the big picture.

An Eye on Evolution
As with most research on gender differences, the researchers think how we assess art goes back to ancient hunter-gatherer times. Seeing the forest before the trees may have been essential for men while tracking and hunting animals. Women would have needed a more critical eye to find the plants and fruits they gathered.

But down to what we really want to know -- does this mean women and men also perceive human beauty differently? If women zero in on the bits and pieces, it would explain why we tend to pick apart the attractiveness of others.

Christian Bale--Everyone thinks Christian's hot for his body and cheekbones, right? Well, we think he's hot for his upper lip, which curls up ever-so-slightly when he speaks.

    Short Stacks
Mark Wahlberg--IMDB says Marky Mark is 5' 8-1/2", but we've heard from Boston bartenders that his shoulders can't clear a high top. That's okay -- being a wee bit short makes him look even more muscular.

    Short Stacks
Pharrell Williams--When you've got a sexy voice, a brilliant career AND you can play the drums, it kinda makes up for the fact that you only come up to our chins.

    Scars
Harrison Ford--The man who broke a thousand Wookiee hearts got his strapping chin scar when he tried to buckle his seatbelt. And there's nothing sexier than auto safety.

Not That Different
Alison Blackman Dunham, a relationship and lifestyle expert who has written several dating books, says, "Both men and women tend to view beauty in terms of symmetry of face and body." What's more interesting is that Dunham says both men and women can find the opposite sex beautiful without experiencing lust and vice versa.

"Men will find women attractive for their breasts, or legs, or whatever sexually excites them the most. That doesn't mean that a man thinks a woman with these attributes is beautiful. Women tend to look at men in similar ways. They may find a particular man's face to be beautiful, but might be more attracted sexually to a man with a toned body or more or less hair, or who is taller, et cetera. "

Hmm, maybe this explains our infatuation with men like Seal and Adrian Brody, who are sexy despite lacking traditionally attractive faces. Tell us: Do you and the men in your life have different opinions on what -- or who -- is beautiful?
