We're already eating like it's the Great Depression and going to the movies like it's the Great Depression, but the latest trends straight outta the 1930s are "victory gardens." Also known as "war gardens," these private vegetable, fruit and herb gardens first became popular during World Wars I and II.

Roger Doiron of Kitchen Gardeners International believes the Obamas should take the lead and plant a modern victory garden at the White House. Eleanor's Roosevelt's garden in 1943 inspired millions of Americans to grow their own fruits and vegetables at home, which boosted morale by providing healthy food and helping to conserve natural and financial resources.

Does all this Depression-era living mean we're in the midst of another Great Depression? What other old-timey trends are back?
