Because girls don't talk openly enough about being "on the rag," 18-year-old Rachel Kauder Nalebuff decided to publish a book all about the least delightful time of the month. "My Little Red Book" compiles 92 "my first period" stories including Nalebuff's great aunt's first visit from "Aunt Flo" on a train out of Poland during World War II and the confusion a box of applicator-free O.B. tampons caused the author of the "Gossip Girl" series. Look, we're all for body consciousness, but if girls want to learn about periods from a book, they can read "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret" like the rest of us.Feb 24th 2009 By Pamela Jaye
What's Worse -- Having Your Period or Reading About Them?

Right on! It's about time someone wrote about what happens in a setting that a young girl can read. Some Parents are so oblivious to the informational needs of their Daughters, that when their period comes, there are girls in tears, and blood all over their clothes! Hooray for the Author!

hell yes! i don't understand why everyone is so hush-hush about their period, anyway. is it because it disgusts and weirds out guys, so girls automatically choose to be quiet about it? sure, it's smelly and messy, but young girls need to be fully aware of their bodies.

I being a young girl who just turned 18 love this book and i think it was great idea and i recommend it to any mom who is unsure how to explain such a thing to her young daughter. Me and my mother never really talked about it too much not even when i got it for the first time when i was 12.

After dating a year, I got my period on a weekend when my bf (now hubby) was visiting. I have endometriosis, and he wanted to know why I was laying down on a heating pad all weekend. I told him it was my period and he got this sorrowful look on his face and said, "oh, I'm sorry. But it'll be over in a few hours, right?"
I nearly fell of the bed! He was raised in the midwest, and stuff like that just isn't discussed. When I told him what it was all about, and that it lasts nearly a week, he got this look of horror on his face.
"You bleed for a week, and you don't die?!"
I still tell that story at parties. Cracks people up. Fortunately, I got a very understand man. Now, when it starts hurting bad, he likes to baby me with back rubs, heating pads, and lets me squeeze his fingers.
