We like that our curvy sisters like J-Lo get props for having big booties. We don't like hearing that women are hurting themselves in their quest for equally round rumps. Yes, butt implants have now entered the annals of plastic surgery disasters.
Two Florida women in their 30s are in critical condition after getting silicone butt injections at a private home a few weeks ago. One woman suffered total kidney failure. Police say the women received Hydrogel, a silicone-based substance and saline solution, at least 20 times over a 90-minute period. Ouch!
The illegal injector, Sharhonda Lindsay, turned herself in to police after being charged with practicing medicine without a license. Lindsay has reportedly done the procedure on other women, but they did not suffer health problems.
Pining for Padded Posteriors
Americans had over 2,100 buttock augmentation procedures and nearly 6,000 buttock lifts in 2004, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. The reason? At least some blame the media, which has been glorifying gigantic derrières for some time.
A Topix.net forum reveals that many have huge hiney standards, like Le-Le from California, who asks, "How big does the booty really get? I'm not looking for a white girl big booty, I want a ghetto booty, too big for my body booty. Is that possible?"

Pinklcouture from Washington, D.C., begs: "Please tell me where to go. I have been wanting this for so long! I have went to plastic surgeons and all they want to do is lipo and contouring to create the illusion of a bigger butt. NO, NO, I NEED THE REAL THING!"
Left Out in Florida: "I just want some booty it doesn't have to be a big ghetto stripper booty with a mind of it's own, but it would be nice to not be the only female in my family with no azz i just feel left out!"
Black-Market Booty
Experts say silicone injected into the body can get trapped in surrounding tissue, which can then become inflamed and infected. Legit fanny lifts are conducted by plastic surgeons who insert butt implants or do fat transfers, which cost a hefty $5,000 to $10,000. Black-market injections, on the other hand, can run for $1,000 or less. But the cost to your health is steeper. It's possible that criminals use industrial-grade silicone, which may have toxic contaminants.
No one will be able to see how fat your fanny is when you're lying in a hospital bed -- or a coffin. We recommend trying some tush-toning exercises or getting bootylicious Kim Kardashian's workout vid instead.
