Hey lonely hearts, looking for love in all the wrong places? One woman has been proposed to NINE freaking times, and she's finally figured out what the secret is.British author Adele Parks, now 40, had already been proposed to seven times by the time she was 23, starting with a 17-year-old boyfriend at a roadside cafe. Her trick was easy enough -- she just wasn't herself.
It turns out that by acting however the guy you're with wants you to, and presenting yourself as something you're not, is a great way to get proposals!
Winning Over Mr. Wrong
Of course, like Adele, you probably wouldn't want to accept those misguided marriage offers, so maybe they shouldn't really count.
Writes Parks, "My fault was that I gave each boyfriend the part of me I knew they'd find palatable, but never the whole package. I should have had the confidence to present myself wholly, truthfully, faults and all. Instead, I was living like a trainee Stepford Wife."

Weird Ways Guys Popped the Question
Jason got his girlfriend Maui's favorite author, Neil Gaimain, to help out with his proposal. After waiting in line to meet the author at a book signing, Maui turned her newly signed copy around to reveal Gaimain's message: "PS, Will you marry Jason?"

We don't want to choose favorites, but JP definitely gets a shout out for over-the-topness. After deciding to propose to his girl in a Super Bowl commercial, he created a website to raise the needed funds. He actually achieved his goal, but not before ads sold out. Instead, he bought air time during her favorite show, Veronica Mars. Check out the commercial and her reaction here.

Tasha got the shock of a lifetime while on board a flight back home from Africa when her boyfriend Ubie showed up on the plane and asked her to marry him over the intercom.

Through work connections, James had an engagement ring for his girlfriend Joy designed by famous video game artist Yoshitaka Amano. He also got Final Fantasy soundtrack composer Nobuo Uematsu to write a little ditty for him to play in the background while proposing.

Alexander proposed to his space loving girlfriend while on a zero-gravity flight that cost him a whopping $7,000. Good thing the ring didn't float away!

While all of our guys went to extremes, Todd is the only one to put his life in danger while proposing. At an annual 4th of July bash with family and friends, and with the help of a trained stuntman, Todd lit himself on fire. After diving into a pool of water, he told girlfriend Malissa that he is "on fire" for her and then dropped to one knee. He later made a website for the occasion.

This computer science major inserted a new area into the game Chrono Trigger by hacking into the game in order to create a special proposal for his girlfriend, a fan of the game. He made it so all of the NPCs (non-playable characters) were her and him reliving the highlights of their relationship. Then, one of the NPCs proposed to the player (his girlfriend). Oh, just watch for yourself.

Jeff took Michelle to a local theater to see a showing of her favorite film Say Anything. Thing is, it was a slightly edited version; Jeff replaced John Cusack with an imagine of himself and entered "Marry Me, Michelle" into the frame.

As a favor to a fan, Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings) asked Amy to marry "Jordan." He did it over the phone, while Amy was in another city and "Jordan" filmed the whole thing. While sweet, the bit was apparently a con. In fact, it seems there was much fooling of the LOTR cast going on.

Parks started her serious self-examination when she realized the disconnect between her relationships and the guys' perceptions of them. "I tried to figure out what on earth was going on," she told the Daily Mail. "Some of these men didn't even know how many siblings I have, but believed I was their ideal woman."
Figuring It Out From Within
It seems that being yourself, and being completely honest and up front about who you are is the best way to find real happiness in a relationship, a lesson Parks learned after her first divorce. That may not get you a variety of shiny engagement rings, but it will probably wind up better in the end.
Just ask the Indiana woman who holds the world record for most marriages after going down the aisle 23 times. Born Linda Lou Taylor and now known as Linda Wolfe (see her picture here), she has been married to a convict, a preacher, a musician, a homeless man and even two gay men. Still, she says, "I would get married again, because, you know, it gets lonely."

"Let's see if I can get him to propose....[ring]...oh I don't really care about you, I'm just a heartless bitch playing a game with your heart for my owne amusement. Seeya."

She didn't say she was doing it to get proposals only to turn them down. If you read it she is looking back saying more or less I was an insecure girl who was scared to show these guys who I really was so I showed them what they wanted to see. It is quite common. I know many girls who are guilty of the same.. I probably have been at times myself. It isn't to purposefully dupe the guys. It is just her being insecure about whether or not they would like the real her. Kinda of like Julia Roberts in the Runaway Bride.. she didn't even know what kind of eggs she liked because she always just ate whatever eggs her boyfriend's liked.

Totally agree. This dumb otch played with Men's emotions just for her own personal fun. Hope she falls flat on her face and then see if some one will want to propose to her then!!

Exactly. NOW imagine if the gender was on the other foot, and this article was about a guy who had led a lot of women on, to get them to fall in love with him by lying. What would the comments be THEN? The hypocrisy of American society strikes again.

but her plan wasn't to get proposals. she wasn't sure how to act in a relationship, and gave the man whatever woman he wanted. that ended up in proposals but obviously she didn't take most of them. she was a bad girlfriend and that resulted in something very unlikely

I dont see this as hypocrisy OR payback. I see where all mankind (that includes women) have lost their spirit, compassion, love, comradery, fellowship and heart for their fellow man (that includes women). Are some people so bored or hearltless enough or just ego driven that what makes them feel better about taking their next breath is the act of deception of another person? I hate this place. Stop the world I wanna get off it right now!

This is stupid. She got proposed to 7 times before she was 23? She is probably counting every time a guy told her "you're cute, let's get married," as a serious proposal. Get over yourself hunny.

What she was doing was what many women do. She was afraid to be alone and rejected, and did not realize it wasn't real if she wasn't real. It DOES say that she realized after her first failed marriage that she realized what went wrong and no longer does it. She should not make a book out of it, because honestly, it's not really that unique. Hell, I've done it. Most people are scared to be alone. I'm 16 and I've had a few proposals in the past few years, but I declined them because I knew they had not taken the time to get to know the real me that was out there, if anyone looked to see. And, obviously, I'm too young.

I totally agree with you on what you said. She is totally a bitch and a player. She is totally playing with these guys emotions. Her type is one of the reasons why so many people are single or divorced. Women like this don’t take marriage seriously; they think its some part time commitment or a joke. She deserves to lonely. She’s actually fugly and I’d rather be stuck with a gorilla on an island than marry that ho!

No Rich, you're probably and unfortunately, a rare breed of human that can't see the entertainment in this article. I frankly think its just a bunch of nonsense. Everybody writes a book now. This woman is no doctor or anything...she just put pen to paper to say something stupid. I know women prettier than she...who wouldn't dare be so vain and arrogant. In a time when some people would die to have a special mate...she flaunts her "gifts" and declares she's swatting them off like so many flies. I don't believe her. Her self realization is right on time. She's 40. Big deal! Lots of people examine their lives at 40. So my question? Now that she's told the world she was a big faker...why do I believe her now? Debunk this fraud I say. Yeah Rich you should not be impressed

gullible??? are u kidding or just that ignorant.....if some guy was pretending to be your perfect man you'd bite as well....that's the whole point of dating ,moron, to find someone who's right for u.....and since she was lying about being miss right every time she obviously was proposed to each time...that's what happens when you pretend to be the person of the guys dreams. did u just not read this article or do u actually have an iq hovering around 60?

Men are stupid and gullible!!?? LOL...wow, talk about accusing others of what we're guilty of. Yeah, men are more trusting or "gullible" when it comes to women because we don't know how evil, manipulative and what naturally good liars women are and how you use your bodies and beauty to deceive men...so in that sense men are gullible.
But women are gullible and stupid in every other facet, including relationships too. Even when a man tells a woman the truth, they still believe their own feelings and emotions over the truth.
Women are masters at accusing others of what they're guilty of as your comment just proved.

She really needs to see a therapist, just to see if a guy will propose to you and how to get him in your web is wrong. Relationships are about love and caring for the person your with. She had no concern for what they must have been going through, the first meet, the attraction, the love they must have felt for her. Not knowing she was just playing a game. Terrible! I know I've been through it myself.......

I think it's pretty clear she's telling women not to do this. Nowhere in the article does she state that she wants people to repeat the same mistakes that she's made...
