As anyone who has seen VH1's "Flavor of Love" and "Rock of Love" can tell you, contests in which women are pitted against each other for male affection only end in unhappiness and public defecation. So we're not surprised that a Chinese tycoon's best-mistress competition ended with one of the women driving a car off a cliff. Reacting to economic hardships, the man decided to make his ladies (not pictured) vie for his affections -- and money. "The businessman was going to lay off four of his five mistresses due to financial troubles," according to a Chinese newspaper. "The women were allowed to vie for the remaining position by competing on their looks, their singing and speaking, and their ability to drink alcohol."
Perhaps it was after the latter competition that one of the laid-off concubines decided that an appropriate response was to drive a car carrying the tycoon and his four other mistresses off of a cliff. Only the driver of the car was killed in the incident, and a court ended up awarding her family $85,000 for their loss. This is only a slightly more tragic outcome than ending up with Bret Michaels or Flavor Flav.

Dear Tom Radler, In the first sentence of your article entitled 'Best-Mistress Pageant Leads Woman To Drive Off Cliff', you stated: "Contests in which women are pitted against each other for male affection only end in unhappiness and public defecation." The word "defecation" means: to void excrement from the bowels through the anus; have a bowel movement; to poop. Did you really mean to use the word 'Defecation'?

Sharon, the author of the article is using the correct word. In one of the Flavor of Love episodes, one of the contestants went pantyless, was ill, and defecated on the floor.

This is why culture needs to be taken into account. Having a mistress in not unusual nor is the fact that in many places it doubles as welfare does in the US. Many countries do not have any backstop for families or individuals. being a mistress gains you financial independence ,wealth, businesses, business contacts,protection and the "face" that s important. That woman may have been the bread winner for her whole family putting family members thru school caring for elderly parents who depend on their children for survival. The same can be said of a person with several spouses!

You know, if you can get over the tragedy of the driver, one of the cast off mistresses, getting killed in the wreck, this is just about the funniest damn thing I've read all day! Now THIS would make a good reality series!
