One of the most famous teen moms in recent history, Bristol Palin, recently spoke with Fox News about her famous mother (you remember Sarah, right?), her son Tripp and getting knocked up while still in high school. While Bristol says she advocates that teens wait "at least 10 years" before becoming sexually active, she also said that "stopping teen sex is not realistic at all" -- a complete contradiction of her mother's abstinence-only sex education ideals.
Tell us: What do you think? Is Bristol right? Is it unrealistic to try to stop teens from having sex?

See now THIS is why I didnt vote for McCain because of his choice for VP. I mean really! Mom says one thing and the daughter says another? While I agree that teens should not have sex because of things like this, she would not be a mom IF she didnt have sex in the first place! HELLO!! IF you tell your kids having sex leads to diseases and making babies there would be alot less teen pregances... and putting condoms in school = HEY its okay to have sex cause condoms are 100% proof against getting pregant? WRONG!! You can still get pergant! And birth control means that its okay to have sex as a teen as well. What is this country coming too anyways? I agree in abstance and that teens should NOT be haing sex at all! Holding hands and kissing is one thing but taking off your clothes and getting busy leads only to problems! Look at Brittany Spears younger sister! She was a good role model for young teens until she got pregant! -sighs- There has to be a better way to educate our teens alot better than what we are doing or we are gonna have a lot more teen moms and dads than we do now!

Hmm... do you agree with everything your parents believe in? I sure don't! Not many do. Weak argument, for sure.

Why are we acting like teen pregnancy is a new thing? It's been going on for centuries, obviously at first because of shorter life expectancies but even in prominent, well-to-do families. Whether it's not in the media because of parents putting their kids into hiding or teens getting forced abortions, this is hardly a new thing. Not to mention that if we're talking about on a global scale, women getting pregnant as teenagers is happening because of oppressive rules on women that allow them to be stoned when they're raped or sold off as child brides.
Continue fighting this battle to make teens stop having sex. In the meantime, I advocate better access to healthcare and birth control options for women and making men understand that they are just as responsible for the children they bring into the world- maybe if we had those two the teens who will continue to have sex would have a much better chance of not becoming or making someone become pregnant.

Like asking someone who got knocked up as a teen if it's possible to practice abstinence? What a bullshit article.

Bristol, don't you go to church with your mother? Didn't she show you the verse in the bible "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." You became pregnant because you wanted sex -- that's what's unrealistic.

What's unrealistic is to expect that the majority of teens will resist one of nature's strongest biological urges. When will people get it through their heads that having sex isn't about antiquated views about the marketability of female virginity; it's about an intense, almost irresistible drive to perpetuate the species.

Why is this even news? Bristol had sex! Don't the majority of human beings? Some of us even have casual sex! Some of us are sex-a-holics and some of us just have sex on occassions... But lets look at this at a more reasonable way shall we? The word "sex" seems to be a threat for parents and religious people... As if it can only bring harm to the world... Now I am not doubting or disagreeing that sex has its consequences... There is STD's, HIV/AIDS, and children... But if practiced safely and moderately, sex can be not only a good thing but a lot of fun! Education is the key! There is no denying this... For teenagers to mature they need education! But education that speaks to them, not demands them... The more rules the higher authority makes... The more the teens are going to break them. Just like the Baby Boomer generation did... Hell those crazy people refused condoms like Mormons do these days. They smoked just as much weed as our generation does now. So lets not say these older people are such great influences... Just get condoms people! Greatest invention since the toaster!

Do you really think teen parents don't know sex leads to pregnancy? My 11 year old brother (who is NOT a parent) can tell you that. I was pregnant at 16, and it was no big surprise why... seriously, we have to change our thinking. And, that "mom says one thing..." Did you always agree with your parents when you were 18? Let's look at this. You cling to "old fashioned" principles here, right? Waiting until marriage... all that. Were it 150 years ago, Bristol would be married due any day with child 2 or 3. My great great grandmother (who i had the pleasure of meeting as a child) was married at 16. She had her FINAL child in her early twenties. Get over it, people. Teach you children all about abstinence and how great it can be... and what to do if they feel they can't achieve that. I know I will, 'cause I don't wanna be "grandma" the way I did it to my mom!

As parents, I think we need to educate our kids--give them the whole story....That means giving them the whole story from the nuts and bolts biology of it to the physical and emotional consequences of it...and then encourage them to remain abstinent and tell them why...And that "why" may include our religious positions...but it needs to go into even greater detail. Talk self-esteem, creating a sense of self before falling into the trap of commodifying sexuality, talk about the importance of developing a range of interests and pursuits, talk about knowing themselves and their own values, about future goals, about all the excitement life has to offer. And most of all, build them up and encourage them as they try to grow into the people you hope for them to be. Ensure they are knowledgeable, able to take care of themselves, and guided by wise principles and good judgement.

I have a few question's for Bristol, since she is an expert on sex. How many guys have you done to become this expert on teen sex? Are you attrated to white guys or ones named Namook too? When you have sex, do you rub noses or do you start with oral? Is whale or seal blubber a good lubricant?

What a freakin joke! I got a good laugh from that one. I am sure this isnt the reason you didnt vote for McCain. Democrats and their hatred for Palin is ridiculous. At least I'm not up here trying to say I didnt vote for Obama because his daughter said something I didnt like. I mean please. Too bad stupid people are allowed to vote.

Sir Rembrandt says "this" is why he didn't vote for John McCain.
This meaning that Vice-Presidential nominee Sara Palin has a teenage daughter who disagrees with some of her own mother's soci-political views.
A mother and an adolescent daughter disagreeing with another - now that's a good reason for not voting for John McCain.
