Nobody likes breaking a nail, but we think it's safe to say that Lee Redmond is more bummed than most of us. Until recently, Redmond held the Guinness World Record for longest fingernails (according to Guinness' website, her longest nail measured 2 feet, 11 inches and hadn't been cut since 1979). Then on Tuesday, a car crash in Salt Lake City snapped her superlative nails and sent her to the hospital. Police say Redmond was ejected from the SUV and suffered non-life-threatening injuries as a result.
Here's what we're wondering: How was Redmond even able to drive with fingernails that long? The good news is that she'll finally be able to use an iPhone once she's out of the hospital. Click here to see even more freakish nail jobs.

some of the long finger nails I have seen are just plain ugly. The woman with the record for the longest nails broke them in a car accident should be glad she wasn't killed driving with those ugly nails that long.

If she had worn her seat belt she probably would be ok. But, I guess with nails that long she couldn't use the belt.

Who said she was driving? She could've been a passenger.

Ok, I don't understand how this woman could have lived. She would have been essentially helpless with these nails. There is no way that she could have driven herself, let alone dressed herself, washed herself, WIPED herself?!

It's so sad that she lost the only thing she thought made her special and whether or not the rest of the world thinks it's bad hygiene to not cut your nails for 30 years, this woman was obviously proud of her 'accomplishment' and hopefully she can find something else to be passionate about....I mean seriously, she's got to be worth MORE than just the length of her fingernails.
