Philadelphian Sunshine Hurlburt is the dynamo behind Blog Full of Jelly, a fashion and style site dedicated to the fine art of the thrift score. Sunshine's also a consummate crafter, and her blog is full of neat food and design projects that even a crafting newbie could tackle (including us). What you do: I make things -- photos, movies, paintings and all manner of ridiculous things to wear. And food -- how could I forget food?
Your shopping secret: The best thrift shops are always in the worst parts of town.
The most expensive things you own: 1. House 2. Truck 3. An impeccable little black Moschino suit that cost darned near a month's rent but was absolutely my smartest purchase ever.
Your favorite piece: Turquoise metallic Cavalli motorcycle boots
Closet Fever: Sunshine from BlogFullofJelly
The thing you end up wearing every day: Color. And Robert Piguet's "Fracas" fragrance.
Sunshine's rack of gorgeous vintage finds.
Your best bargain find: Men's Oxford shoes from the 1930s in my size at a Salvation Army in Savannah, GA, for $2.97.
These are a few of her favorite things: A Coach silk floral purse; a vintage Fendi backpack bought in Italy long ago; and a mint green patent leather bow purse.
Sunshine: "I collect shrunken jackets in crazy prints. This is my hands-down favorite: Prism print silk by Walter from Blue Belle in Savannah, GA."
What you wear when you're feeling tired/hungover/unattractive: I have a lot of outrageous and entertaining '70s polyester maxi dresses that sort of do all the work for you. The crazier the better, really.
Sunshine's dressing room and her pup Beatrice.
Your most nostalgic clothing item: I still regularly wear shoes that I bought in 1992 – my first 'real' shoe purchase. Black patent Mary Janes with a 2-1/2" flared heel. They were on sale for $50 -- which was a ton of cash for me at the time -- but they were worth every penny and then some.
What's your favorite part of the day: I love the end of the evening – curled up with the pups and a movie and an arty/crafty project of some sort.
Your biggest regret purchase: I regret getting rid of things or not buying vintage pieces that I should have, but I don't regret a whole lot that I've ever bought. I regret sooooo many things that I have lost/sold over the years though... my Hattie Carnegie dress, my '40s red suede swing coat. And why didn't I buy that violet '30s crushed velvet evening dress? Man, it had a rhinestone belt buckle and was bias cut and would have fit me and wasn't priced insultingly. Sometimes I'm a real rube.
