Actress Salma Hayek recently traveled to Sierra Leone to raise awareness about tetanus, a leading cause of death in the developing world. While there, she witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of extreme poverty. Hayek, who has a 16-month-old daughter named Valentina, was moved to offer herself quite literally to a starving child. In front of Nightline cameras, Hayek began breast-feeding a hungry African baby.

Got to admit that for this male, the idea of publically feeding a baby, not your own, was a little disturbing.
But the act was done tastefully. It raised a point and was not salacious. Not sure, I could handle my wife doing what Selma Hayek did... doing it in public, but there are different opinions and points of view.

I have no problem with her breastfeeding a hungry baby....but the baby appeared to be healthy, even chubby cheeked. I hate to negative but this could just be a publicity stunt. Do all these rich acttresses tithe at least 10% of their grossly overpaid income. I would love to see the numbers of how many tithe (not to a church necessarily but to any charity!!!). Let's see them REALLY start putting their money where its needed.

I have to agree with you kat. This baby is definitely not starving. He is very healthy. If they would have used one of the rail thin babies from some of the clips of the village then this would have been more believable as a humanitarian effort.

that is disgusting, and weird.
give the mother some money, so SHE can feed HER child.
and i cant help but wonder, what was wrong with the breast milk of the child's mother??
i never did like salma hayek, anyways.
salma: your titties do not belong in every baby's mouth, just your own.
blehhhh.

Why is she being nominated for sainthood, for feeding a hungry child?

Beautiful example of random acts of human kindness. If only more people in the world could give themselves (maybe not in such a literal sense) to help other, we would all be in a much better place.
God Bless

I don't know of any other Person that would have done what she did and that was just simply unselfish and very beautiful on her behalf, thinking of a hungry and sick child and doing something that is supposed to be Personal between her and her daughter, Her daughter will be proud of her one day when she is older

that is sick.Find a bottle for the baby.I would not want another woman doing that for my baby. I didn't breast feed my baby anyway. Besides the fact she could have something and give it to the baby or the baby could give her something and she could pass it along to her own child.SICK SICK

Sick? How in the world is it sick? It's completely natural. Find a bottle???? What makes you think there was a bottle and formula available-that wasn't a US city with a store around each corner! I feel sorry for you that you didn't breastfeed your own child. You missed a beautiful, pleaceful experience, not to mention giving your child a better shart in life. BUT to each his own/

You people, dont realize that most of these women in Africa nations have been raped, repeatly by whatever group is in control "armies". Birth control isnt readly available in remote areas. They arent given a chance to decide one way or the other. Do you honestly think these women want to bring these children in the world knowing they are probably going to starve to death??

She performed as a wet nurse would. It's been happening for centuries. When one mother couldn't feed her child, another would help. No big deal. Good for her.

While I think that this had good intentions it does not really stop the child from starving unless she stays there. If you do not have food one random meal is not going to save your life. Also its nice that famous people want to help poor people but what about the starving Americans and the poor Americans. Shouldn't we take care of the problems in our own country before trying to help others?
