You're wearing leggings, pants, two pairs of socks, a tank top, tee, sweater, coat and scarf. You're warm, but you have the mobility -- and girth -- of a woman in her third trimester. But take heart: We've assembled some must-try tricks for layering like a pro.
Slim Down
Even though we suspect Spanx were created by whatever conspiracy gave us PMS, the body-shapers actually come in pretty handy when Jack Frost rolls into town. It's an extra layer, but one that reduces bulk. Try a Slimming Mini cami from Slimpressions, or a similar shapewear garment.

Maximize Your Layers
Instead of wearing everything in your closet (a la Joey Tribbiani), choose individual layers that are warmer in order to reduce the total number of garments. For example, wool tights like this merino pair from Falke are better than standard nylons, while wool leggings -- we like this Jucca version -- provide more heat than Lycra.
Or opt for a soft, dreamy cashmere camisole -- such as this babydoll-style one from Prive. And this amazing A.P.C. Fleece Drop-Waist Dress just needs leggings and a cami to look effortlessly chic.
Stay Focused
Heavy layers from head to toe will create a shapeless, muddled mess, so ask yourself what the standout piece of your outfit is.
Is it a great blousy top, a new dress or a dramatic bat-wing sweater? Then keep your bottom half simple and slim in leggings, tights or skinny trousers.
If the piece you want to highlight is a fab pair of wide-leg jeans, keep your top half smooth with one or two layered tees or a basic scoop-neck sweater.
Smart Winter Accessorizing
Wearing a winter hat, scarf (the chunkier the better) and gloves helps. But those aren't the only accessories you should be playing with this season. Wrapping a belt around your sweater, sweater dress or even your coat helps considerably in maintaining a sleek, figure-flattering look. Throw one on whenever you're feeling particularly Yeti-esque.
