Just in time for Barack Obama's inauguration, Ted Kefalinos, owner of the Lafayette French Bakery in New York, N.Y., is selling atrocious "Drunken Negro Cookies." The offensive chocolate-coated cookies feature an overexaggerated caricature of an African-American face. And that's not all. Kefalinos, whose cakes were featured in "Sex and the City," was overhead saying that he hoped Obama would follow in assassinated President Abraham Lincoln's footsteps: "He will get what's coming to him." Sounds like a threat to us!
Update: After hundreds of angry responses and calls for a boycott of his bakery, Kefalinos finally apologized for the cookies. "I'm sorry that people were offended by the cookie. We were just trying to make a large number of people happy, and instead we made a large number of people confused and angry."
Tell us: Do you believe Kefalinos? What do you think?

wtf?! as a black girl, i find this wayyy offensive.
if he doesn't like obama, fine. everyone has their own opinion and all that.
however, those "drunken negro cookies" are representing a racist stereotype and he shouldn't be allowed to sell those.
on his little comment, whatever free speech, even though it's so messed up

We have the freedom of speech and expression in this country. He is not breaking any laws. Don't like it, don't buy it. You don't have the right to tell anyone what they can buy or sell. Whether you agree or not with him, he has the right to express his beliefs in this country. Now some of you actually know how it feels when someone bashed the president......think about all the dishonest, dishonorable, rude, unpatriotic expressions that ex-president Bush supporters have experienced for the past 8 years! Welcome to the rights of USA!

The primary stereotype is your annoying sense that any issues contrary to your low self esteem should be met with hedonistic and opprobious loathing towards others in an attempt to make them feel as you are.....pathetic...!

Well, I'm glad this was on the news...I'll definitely be passing the word around. He may have freedom of speech which is fine, but there's a million bakery and pastry places in NY; therefore, he's lost himself several customers.... How does it go from being call the "Drunken Ni**er cookie" to the "Obama cookie"; let's be serious. This man in obviously full of stuff. Sometimes things are less offensive when you poke fun at several races and cultures...the stereotypes, but when one is singled out by an individual outside of that particular race, it's not something to laugh about. This guy will "get what's coming for him. " Places are closing down left and right in the city and he wants to play the fool.

Its offensive to have "drunken negro cookies", but when a black so called "man of God" says that when "white decides to do right" everything wil be great? can you say Rev. Wright? I believe Obama to be the biggest racist I have ever seen. You are judged by the people that you associate with. Wait, I forgot that only whites can be racist, everyone else that does these types of things are "strong people of color".

Yes this cookie is a bad idea. I think it is really stuipd for everyone to be associating (including the media) this cookie with the president. Damn everybody he is not god and he is not our savior. As a black woman I did NOT vote for him and fear for our country now that he is in office. Although I was more fearful of what certin people would have done had he not been elected.

Actually, Drunken IRISH cookies would be "representing a stereotype". I don't know of any stereotypical connection between blacks and acute alcoholism. Poor taste and perhaps generally offensive, sure (with the additional comments made). Its just a stupid person doing stupid things, is it really worth your time (or anyone's) getting worked up over it?

I am not saying that it is not racist and horribly offensive, but as far as not being able to sell them, you wouldn't even know they existed if it wasn't for this article, it is his right as an American to make and sell whatever he wants in his own store that he pays for, just as it is your right not to go to that store and buy anything. You acknowledged the right to free speech and what he is "saying" with these cookies still falls under that category. Like it or not, there are people that agree with him and will buy these cookies and that is their right as well.

I hope this guy goes out of business!! is he serious...this is so degrading to our country's president as well as all americans who support his dream, no matter what race. I hope no one buys the cookie or anything else from him, for that matter. what's up with him calling it a "drunking negro cookie". it's insulting--it doesn't even portray african americans at all! I hope this guy goes out of business. I bet you if they created a cookie of him that looked like that, he would be offended. I really don't get it... I'm glad that the interviees saw it for what is was--ignorance. America is a free country, but this is just outright prejudice.

I will go and personally buy up dozens of his cookies...If he made a White Trailer Trash cookie I would frigging laugh...but blacks just can NOT do that....its ALWAYS racist......as long as blacks are always doing this...Racism will be alive and well......same thing how they get all offended when refered to as a monkey...(monkeys are cute)....I would NOT have a problem being called a polar bear....BIG FRIGGING DEAL....THIS IS THE REASON that the races will NEVER get along...not ever...blacks are keeping their own race down by bitching and complaining about EVERYTHING....GET OVER IT...

I think those choclate cookies are directed to President Obama, and The Baker himself should be arrested for treatning President Obama!! NO QUESTIONS ABOUT IT!! That's the trouble with this World. Too much hatered, and Discremination!! There is NO ONE better then the next Person, whether they are Black, Purple, Green, Yellow or White. Under that skin is red blood, bones and meat!! The same for all races and creed!! Some people think they are better then the next person, but the truth is they are NOT!! And remember the better and higher you are on the ladder, you'll someday fall, and the higher you climb the furthur you fall!!

Are you nuts? Arrested for using his constitutional right of freedom of speech? This is not communist 1970's Russia where you get arrested for expressing your opinion. Last time I checked we are in the United States of America and we follow something called the Constitution along with the Bill of Rights which is a set of laws that govern this country. I have said many of times "he/she will get whats coming to them" when I feel that someone is making a bad decision. Does that mean that I am wishing harm on a person in any way shape or form? Not one bit. Do yourself and everyone around you a favor and read the Constitution as well as the Bill of Rights.
