It might be time to add a salad bar sneeze guard to your shower, because spinach is the newest beauty product innovation.

Canada -- because let's face it, stuff like this only happens in Canada -- just green-lit (har!) government funding to help develop an organic extract made from baby spinach. The extract will be used in skincare and sunscreen products that could hit the shelves as early as this year.

Turns out, baby spinach is more than just a good carrier for vinaigrette -- it's also chock full of anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that make it a good pick for youth-boosting skin and beauty products.

We love face creams, so why does this sound wrong? Is it because spinach is the nerd of the veggie and fruit kingdom? Goji berries, burdock root, even citrus-spiked lotions sound better than ... spinach. And what about color? Is this going to be a poo-hue cream we'd be embarrassed to be caught using? "Hold on honey, let me just lather on my spinach cream," isn't the sort of phrase one lightly twinkles while winking at her beau from her boudoir.

Thanks and everything, Canada, but we're skipping straight to the dessert course.
