Turns out that big girls really don't cry ... at least not as much as beanpoles. A recent British survey has shown that fuller-figured gals are happier than their skinnier counterparts. (YES! Party subs for everyone!)According to the study, women who wore a size 14 (around a U.S. size 10) reported the highest levels of "general happiness," noting satisfaction with their appearance, career and love life. While curvier chicks on the whole seemed to enjoy life more, weight and cheeriness only correlated to a certain extent.
Women who wear a size 24 or larger (just above a U.S. 2X ) were among the unhappiest. But on the opposite end of the spectrum, size 6 (a U.S. size 4) wearers were still pretty glum, coming in fourth place for the most miserable size.
Size 14 is the national average for British gals, so it seems, like everybody keeps telling us, that a moderate middle ground is the key to all things (although we think that ice cream should be exempt).
Or, like notoriously curvy, notoriously awesome television chef Nigella Lawson (at left) told England's Daily Mail, "I do think that women who spend all their lives on a diet probably have a miserable sex life: If your body is the enemy, how can you relax and take pleasure?"
Well, there you go. If you needed a reason to tear into a pile of buffalo wings, now you have the prospect of better sex as an incentive.

Why is everyone about to rip this writers head off for saying that a size ten is full figured? You are taking his words way out of context. Has anyone thought to possibly think that maybe he means that full figured is shapely to him and not necesarily heavy set. Not every guy is out to call a woman size 10 fat. So calm the heck down. I am a size 8 and only 18 so still in the growing process. That is not big for me at all because i have been blessed with hips and breast. If you are a size 10 and content with that why let a little article piss you off. It's not that serious. Letting small things like this get to you will defeat the whole purpose of this man writing the article in the first darn place because you're supposed to be the ones that are happy..not doing a great job of showing it. & Mike its okay that you may be attracted to men..not discriminating over here.

Just be happy and healthy.
And who cares what a guy thinks.. they usually don't have any brains anyway..

Why is everyone about to rip this writers head off for saying that a size ten is full figured? You are taking the purpose of writing the article farther than it needs to go. Has anyone thought to possibly think that maybe full figured is shapely to him and not necesarily heavy set. Maybe size 10 is someone he thinks has a proportioned butt and breasts ratio. Not every guy is out to call a woman size 10 fat. So calm the heck down. I am a size 8 and only 18 so still in the growing process. That is not big for me at all because i have been blessed with hips and breast and a small waist & will probably be a size ten within a few years if those areas continue to enlarge due to heredity, not a poor diet. If you are a size 10 and content with that why let a little article piss you off. It's not that serious. Letting small things like this get to you will defeat the whole purpose of this man writing the article in the first darn place because you're supposed to be the ones that are happy..not doing a great job of showing it. & C its okay that you are unhappy with life so you feel the need to put others down. I really do not agree with this article. I am a size 4...I am NOT anorexic. I am just petite. I've always been small. I am happy with my weight and I eat like I want. I do not starve myself. Why are you guys being so prejudice against women who are naturally small? It's unfair. Oh and I'm very happy, not just with my body, but myself.

Here's a deal - we will stop stereotyping all skinny women as self-absorbed anorexics if skinny women will stop portraying big women as lazy, compulsively over-eating couch potatoes. Deal?
I think attraction all comes down to attitude. If you feel beautiful and sexy, no matter what your size, men will find you attractive. I am a big woman and have recently been actively pursued by a very hunky guy whose most recent relationship was with a woman the total physical opposite of me - she was a tall thin brunette and I am a short heavy blonde. It took a while for me to accept that he really was attracted to me, but his actions were undeniable. And he has made it clear that he is physically attracted to me - in addition to finding me funny and caring and a great friend.
So love yourself and people will see that and love you too - regardless of the number on the label in your clothes.

Melanie, I do not stereotype women bigger than me fat and lazy. Why are you so quick to judge and lump EVERY skinny person in the same category. WE ARE INDIVIDUALS! It depends on a person's bone structure, height, and what makes them feel good. I detest these comments that are bashing skinny women. It is so freaking unfair.

There should not be an apostrophe in the plural, non-possessive word "illiterates." I'm sure I don't need to point out the irony in the fact that you called Americans illiterate while making a punctuation error in your own posting.

This is amazing. Americans think the "emaciated skeleton look" is good. Take a look at the women from the films from the 1930's through the early 1960's, They were classy and certainly not too thin. All reports have stated that all time blonde bombshell Marilyn Monroe was a size 14. Marilyn never has stopped wooing the men. She certainly was not fat, but she had curves that men like to see. Almost 50 years after her death, we still love Marilyn Monroe! Size 10 is for a teenage frameor a very petitie woman's frame. Most beautiful women without all that Hollywood fixer-ups and surgery have more to offer than skin and bones and fake breasts. They are real people that we all love.

Mitzi - I don't think all thin women are anorexic. My remarks were more general in nature. But there are many comments on here that cry about the portrayal of thin women - while just as many seem to think anyone larger than the norm is a lazy over-eater. Just asking for a little compassion from both sides. To paraphrase your own words - "I detest these comments that are bashing big women. It is so freaking unfair."

I'm a size 10 and 12 so i'm a fatty? My husband loves my body and he's always telling me how men are always looking at my body which i don't care if any other man thinks my bod is hot or not as long as my husband loves it i'm happy. I'm 5'5 about 160 and wear a size ten and twelve i think my body is perfect for a 20 year old. I'm not being cocky either and never have been but i know i'm not fat i work out may not eat right but i work it all off when i work out. So to men like mike you will most likely not ever get a woman with that attitude.

I think people are overeacting to the whole "fuller figured" comment. In the authors defense I think they mean fuller figured than the stick thin people. That being said a heatlhy body weight is usually attractive whether its thin, medium or somewhat larger, hey look at Queen.

FAT IS NOT PRETTY. Not only is it unhealthy but its ugly. Haven't you all watched wall-e? People get lazy and eat snicker bars because they've had a bad day. I'm a size one but I do not have a eating disorder b/c I eat all of the time. But I also watch what I eat. I was born skinny and I cannot gain weight. But to say I'm miserable is not true I'm quiet happy with what I have. The people who are miserable are the sick ones with the eating disorders.

Sam's comments are just proof of my point - she can say fat is ugly, but insists that we accept HER body and lifestyle as normal and innate. She says we all come home and eat candy bars to deal with a bad day, which a very unfair stereotype. And what does a cartoon movie about a robot have anything to do with health and body weight?

Here's one more opinion, take it for whatever it's worth to you. I'm 42 and have been married to the same woman for 20 years. She's been every size between a 5 and a 22. Friends and family have made comments about her being too thin as well as too heavy. One thing has remained constant though... CONFIDENCE! This woman has looked beautiful, dressed appropriately, and always exuded confidence no matter what her age, size, hair length, etc. has been.
True, I am biased because she is my wife and best friend, but here's the thing be happy, assertive, and confident whatever your appearance is. That's where a womans beauty comes from. Statistics and averages can be manipulated to say whatever they want.
