Vague Relationship Status(n.): The annoying tendency of a guy to obscure his relationship status on social networking sites. Instead of just spelling it out, he opts for obtuse categories and vague terminology that make it difficult to tell whether he's actually available. See: "It's Complicated" on Facebook or "Swinger" on MySpace for reference. These guys usually go for the vague status because they're A. extremely insecure about their relationship or B. trying to pretend they don't have a girlfriend. Either way, guys who do this are bad news, and you should probably erase them from your inbox.
The Dude Dictionary is a collection of males and behaviors lovingly catalogued by Shmitten Kitten creator Anna Goldfarb. Got a dictionary entry you'd like to add? Let us know.

I have recently posted a blog about the guys who pretend they don't have a girlfriend. It's a humorous take on life after divorce. The latest is:

But, some guys and girls almost never go to facebook. They have an account but they go to their account two or three times a year. Like me!

I'll one-up this pathetic story... The guy I was dating denied my "friend request" on Facebook. He'd sleep with me, but not be my Facebook "friend." Please tell me why I didn't see this loser coming from a mile away!

To singlegirl...
I met a guy a year ago when I was out with a gal pal over drinks...he initiated conversation, drinks, dinner...nothing happened and never talked since. We found each other on fb a year later. Talked, texted, phone calls, emails...added each other as friends on fb. After going out and sleeping with each other, we kept in contact, he was helping me in referring new job ops too...tried to hook up again, two months later...set a day then he wanted a rain check an hour before we were to meet ...too tired from a buddy's party the nite before...less than three days later he deletes me from his friends page! I emailed him and asked "what, not friends anymore?" Did I offend you in anyway?" Naturally...no reply. Men disappear fast! They have no balls and can't tell a woman how they are feeling towards them. Good or bad. Honesty is the best policy. Even when it hurts. It;s better than not knowing why! I'm right with you sistah!

some ppl don't check their myspace or whatever except for three times a year...some ppl acknowledge that NO ONE talks to someone that is "taken". Some ppl would like to make new friendships and will divulge the appropriate info when they should do so. Further more if its an issue for someone in a legitimate relationship to not trust their other half... well I think you know what you should be taking care of anyway. If you do trust the other half maybe just ask and/or understand before blowing up?

Hey women! Worry about this relationship minutiae now!
And actually, I'd consider "swinger" pretty forward with his intentions. Taken or not, you wouldn't be the only one anyway.

Oh Shutup Joe there is nothing wrong with dating on the internet, hell you can not sit there and tell me that you NEVER have picked up someone off the internet or even talked to someone in a romantic kind of way either....... its 2009 and get with the program!! There is nothing wrong with it so think about what you comment before you comment!

maybe some ppl are just really really shy, and some feel more secure spending time online w/ someone,in attempt to get to know that person,........life is too short & precious to be wasting on that dating scene crap,........and some ppl are smarter about time spent on a losing situation, not everyone has ton's of money to buy gold digger people dinner every night

Isn't the female equivalent of this saying your "married" to a friend of yours? Girls do that all the time, and it can be just as frustrating (if not more) as someone who doesn't put their status at all...
