We've seen couples participate in some interesting bonding rituals, like tandem skydiving or reciting vows on a roller coaster. But what about wearing matching clothes each day till death do you part?Ray and Honey Smith of Ceres, Calif., have worn identical outfits every day for the past five years. Married for 46 years, the 65-year-old retirees have over 100 matching Hawaiian silk shirts, tons of matching Crocs, and a variety of jeans and fanny packs (all in pairs, of course).
"The reason is, we wanted to let people know we're happy," Ray told the Modesto Bee.
The only articles that they don't coordinate are jewelry and underwear (disappointingly enough). Honey picks out the next day's outfits every night. They first started experimenting with matching in high school, when they both wore paisley shirts and white shorts on senior cut day. "I wanted everyone to know we were together," Ray said.
The tactic seems to have worked. We have yet to meet a guy willing to wear the pink-and-orange tulle Betsey Johnson mini we got on sale in 1996, which is probably why we're still single.
