They say women love a man in uniform, and here at Lemondrop, we agree wholeheartedly. So today, as we take the time to thank the members our of armed forces for keeping us safe, let us also thank them for inspiring some damned fine movies. In recognition, we came up with this list of our favorite soldiers (and marines and pilots and more).
To our brave military, please accept our sincere and humble thanks. To the men who play them in movies, please accept our complete and total objectification.
And now, join us in saluting the hottest onscreen men in uniform. Scroll through the shots below, then leave a comment to let us know who we forgot. Happy Veterans Day!
Men in Uniform
Jake Gyllenhaal, "Jarhead." The same old sensitive guy you know and love, but with massive shoulder pythons.
Universal
Jude Law, "Cold Mountain." Ah, the Civil War -- a strange, bygone time when the country was divided upon itself and Jude Law was still hot.
Miramax
Richard Gere, "An Officer and a Gentleman." Oh, Officer Candidate Mayo! We loved you almost as actual mayo.
Paramount
Tom Cruise, "A Few Good Men." From "Taps" to "Top Gun" to "Born on the Fourth of July," nobody loves to put on a uniform more than Tom Cruise.
Getty Images
Will Smith, "Independence Day." Ok, not technically a real war. Whaddyou want? It's 90's era Will Smith in an air force uniform.
Everett Collection
Matthew McConaughey, "U-571." The Mac pulled off this turtleneck-sweater-and-suspenders costume with aplomb. The movie? Notsomuch.
Universal
Adam Beach and Ryan Phillipe, "Flags of Our Fathers." Serious subject matter, yes. But also: seriously goodlooking actors.
Dreamworks
Denzel Washington, "Glory." Obviously, this movie makes us weep. But young Denzel makes it all worthwhile.
Zuma Press
Heath Ledger, "The Patriot." Aww. Heath. He had the power to make tri-cornered hats hot.
Zuma Press
Matt Damon, "Saving Private Ryan." The movie that launched a) Matt Damon into superstardom and b) a thousand funny dirty movie titles.

This article is a bunch of crap very few if any of those actors would wear an actual uniform and protect their country. The only person listed that is an actual veteran is Steve McQueen. Pretty sad that this country worships people who get paid too much money to pretend to be heros.

Nobody cares about these lame actors. Show us some real men in uniform that actually do something for their country instead of rob most ppl in the box office.

If men in uniform were truly treated as the heros they are by the news media, our true heros would be appreciated by the general population instead of pitied or worse hated. These brave men and women will carry with them the mental and physical pain for the rest of their lives. They willingly paid this price so that ungrateful Americans can continue to sleep and work and party safely. How about showing some appreciation. Report consistently on the good they do every day all the while just trying to stay alive between attacks?

By know your chinos
RE: Steve McQueen, "The Great Escape." So he wasn't really "in uniform" (apparently everybody wore chinos in German POW camps) but we couldn't make this list without the King of Cool.
YOUNG'EN - EVEYBODY DID!
Do your research, chinos WERE the issue of the day for all officers of the US forces.
Therefore, every American officer, in that OFFICER pow camp in ''THE GREAT ESCAPE'' had them on his legs.
MORON!
