When we think of groups of people assembling peacefully to better the lives of others, we usually think of protests -- the Boston Tea Party, anti-war marches, etc. But a couple of creative gals in New York decided that what the world needs now is Bueller, sweet Bueller. That's right -- Ferris Bueller. Two performance artists, Mina Karimi and Kara Suhey, took it upon themselves to recreate the famous parade scene from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" during New York City's legendary Halloween Parade. A float and a horde of volunteer reenactors were on hand to play Ferris, Cameron, Skye, the "Beer Maid Brigade" and members of the Chicago crowd.
Participants signed up via a Tumblr page entitled "Project Bueller," which went up in August. Karimi and Suhey rallied them to "erupt in joy," and predicted that the flash mob would be "one of the greatest experiences of everyone's lives."
And did it go off? The Village Voice reported that paradegoers enthusiastically joined in the "Twist and Shout" sing-along and declared the project "a rousing success." We think that the pair's next '80s-movie reenactment should be the final "history report" scene from "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure," but only if they can find a credible Keanu and we can yell "San Dimas High School Football Rules!"
