Between constant messaging from Blackberry-addicted bosses, Facebook stalkers and JCrew.com, your eyes can glaze over while trying to assay your inbox. But some internet communication is more urgent than others -- and the STD e-card is one inbox item you don't want to ignore.Conceived by the San Francisco Department of Public Health and Internet Sexuality Information Services, the website inSPOT.org allows you to notify sexual partners that you have -- and they may have been exposed to -- an STD. These e-mails include links to testing information and allow users (and evil internet pranksters) to remain anonymous.
According to an article in the journal PloS Medicine, about 50,000 STD-cards have been sent since the site's launch.
While inSPOT.org is doing a wonderful service for unfortunate, uh, "recipients," (if a huge disservice to netiquette in general), it's officially trumped the drunken poem as the last thing we want to receive from an ex. Let's hope nobody's spam filter keeps them from a much-needed trip to the free clinic.

Wow! Never knew such a thing existed. I hope I never get an e-card saying that! But I'm married so I think my chances are fairly slim.
