The culprit behind the latest case of bad baby names is not the typical celebrity, it's the 2008 presidential election.

An overzealous new dad from Elizabethton, Tenn., secretly named his third child Sarah McCain Palin in honor of the Republican ticket. Mark Ciptak took it upon himself to scrap his wife's choice -- the totally normal "Ava Grace" -- in favor of a name that would be more likely "to get the word out" about the campaign.

Ciptak told reporters that since he can't give much financial support to the party, this was his best effort for a show of support.

Between this, the Obama tattoos, and the Republican corn maze (see left), we're wondering if anybody just puts up a yard sign anymore. As the election nears, we can only expect more outrageous displays of party loyalty -- let's just hope none of them have the potential to ruin anyone else's elementary school years.
