Growing up, we weren't allowed sugary dessert snacks, which of course made Hostess Cup Cakes the Holy Grail of snack foods. Today on Snackdown, we test out Hostess' original delicious cupcakes against the low-calorie alternative. Snack on.

Appearance: Classic chewy chocolate cupcake, topped with what looks like chocolate fondant, with a signature white squiggle on top.
Appearance: Three mini-cupcakes per serving, each one smaller and flatter than the original. No adorable white squiggle of icing on top.
Cost: $3.99 for eight cakes
 Cost: $3.99 per six pack (so a total of 18 little cakes)

Calories: 200 calories, 7 grams of fat per cake
Calories: 100 calories, 3 grams of fat per serving
Taste: So much chewy, sugary goodness it's practically dripping with corn syrup.
 Taste: Sweet! But also incredibly dry at this size. Pass the (skim) milk.

Our pick: The low-cal pack is good in a bind, but when you can spare the fat and calories (and if you're eating cupcakes, you always can), go for the real thing.
