Call us simple, but we think cakes are super. We're also endlessly amused by things that look like one item but are actually something else. (Isn't that the whole lure of Transformers?) So you can imagine how giddy we were when we found these cakes shaped like Legos, hamburgers and more.
Do you have a cleverly camouflaged cake recipe? Click here to send us your pictures, and we'll add them to our gallery.
Let them eat cake!

I LOVE the Lego cakes! What a simple and clever idea. I'm asking myself, now why didn't I think of that?? Too late now... my son just turned 22 and our Legos days are behind us. He fondly remembers years of Mom-cakes and homemade Halloween costumes... and isn't that why we do this? I posted one of his favorites, a go-kart cake.
When I click on the arrows, it won't move to the next cakes, but I've seen the hamburger cake. Sorry to be missing the rest.

Fun to look at but would you really want your children to eat all that food coloring!!?? The red is especially bad. A lot of people have reactions to it...One reaction is hyoeractivity which is often mistaken to be ADHD...

Becky do you always have to be the one to mess up a fun thing? believe me when i tell you that most people are very aware of what the color dyes can do including turning your poop that color but do you always have to be the one to screw up a fun thing for kids to share with thier family and have a good time? this is exactly what is wrong with todays society. I think the time spent with your kids doing a fun edible project it worth a little hyperactivity! believe me it won't kill them to have red dye in thier systems for a day. CHILL GIRL CHILL have a bit of fun sometimes and i promise your kids will grow up happy and creative not hyper and hanging off the chandillears dear.

I love the lego cakes! Thank you for posting this ... will try to click thru the rest of the cakes. I have been doing fun cakes for about a decade, before that, I did once in awhile. I have the most wonderful tattered book from 1972 held together with rubber bands that was my mothers. Cut Up Cakes ... so very easy and am always looking for more fun cakes and ideas! I did a Cut Up Cake search a couple months ago and a wonderful web site came up ... someone was kind enuf to copy the entire first book I think that one was from the 50s ... got many more ideas from that one! Thanks Again.

The second cake has the most amazing detail, just wonderful! Congrats on the new site, I'm slapping a bookmark on ya :-) Is there any way to play with the size of the gallery pics or the gallery itself? I can't see any text written at the bottom of the pics unless I go to the thumbnails (and then I can't see the full pic). Just curious.

These cakes are pretty amazing but I have to say, I am not impressed with the Lego cakes. They look kind of sloppy.

I agree they do look sloppy, but I think its just an idea, not to be put into a cake contest. I'm sure if someone took more time making those cakes it would turn out better I know it would for me! I tink the idea is absolutely cute! And as far as the dye issue goes, I wouldn't worry about that either, you can always use plain vanilla frosting and chocolate instead, maybe look for some colors that are ready out of the can so you don't have to worry about the dye....Life is short have fun you never know if today will be your last!

When I was a kid, my mom knew a lady who made me a hamburger cake for one of my birthdays....it looked pretty good. The same lady made a taco shaped cake for another friend of my mom's who was a Mexican (this could be construed as a bit racist of my mom, but her heart was in the right place, I think, lol).
I it was my 8th birthday that someone made a baseball diamond shaped field for my birthday that had my summer league team in attendance....pretty much every cake after that (if there was one) was store bought....Oh well!

The lego cake looks mega sloppy, and I've seen way aesomer cakes than that. Food Network, Ace of Cakes! Channel 46 on at 10:00 pm! They make way better cakes, that actually look like real hamburgers and hotdogs! Scrabble Boards and working street lights on little scenes. Oh, and get this. They're actually made by people, not machines!

That Lego cake could use a make-over. Really sloppy work.

the lego cakes could use a little more work, but it's the thought that counts, mabe a first time caker? I did the hamburger cake back a few years and had my son's party at a bowling alley. EVERYONE bowling that day came down to see that cake. Their very easy to do, just a little practice is all it takes!
